Power Steering Pump Hose

Hi all, quick question on this power steering pump hose, when taking it apart we found some plastic parts inside the hose, what are these for? why are they inside the hose?

It's part 68 on this diagram or A1243209153

Where was it located - is it hollow? Looks like it would be by one of the ends to maintain shape, but I have no experience with that hose directly.

I found these inside the SLS hose off a 300TE. I believe they dampen/silence pulsation sounds.
