Prepping for trans rebuild

I am reading through the new and old threads on the rebuilding of the trans and especially like the comments of an old salty dog- rebuilders don't replace all the parts with new ones.

I am interested in suggestions for parts and special tools for the job.

Main tools I can think of would be the tools to compress the reverse piston springs/plate evenly, and the B1 cover tool. You can fabricate stuff but the actual tools are much nicer. A couple of the B1 cover tools sold on eBay recently, it's spendy from MB. There use to be a nice aftermarket kit with all of the above but I haven't seen it for sale in a few years, I don't know why. These will at least let you take apart all the external stuff for a total re-seal.

There may be additional tools needed for the internal clutch/gear work, I've never been further inside so I'm not sure. I assume you have the "big" factory manual (PDF file) that shows every procedure in detail? It's written for a G-wagen but almost all the info applies to any 722.3 trans.

I've always stayed away from work deep in the guts of the trans myself...felt like there is so much I can do wrong and so many tips/tricks/tools needed to do it right that I'd much sooner just send it to a decent rebuilder. What's pushing you to do this?

Yeah I am getting all of it printed out because I hate scrolling. Looking for those tools too!
 
There few things I would recommend to review, particularly the K2 drum (this video is very helpful)


As for additional tools, the K1 seal, some recommend the lip-wizard tool, it is very good Transmission Lip Wizard™ Installation Tool I found this way was easier for me


A clutch spring compressor tool, something like this Automatic Transmission Clutch Spring Compressor Removing / Installing Tool Kit | eBay

For B1, once transmission is out, this type of long clamp (if you have it), is all I needed to remove the unit (courtesy of rennlist)

Everything else, if you actually thinking of taking transmission out of the car yourself - you should already have, just basic tools, extensions, etc...

Apologies for late reply - I did repsond to a PM by the OP and meant to post here after.

Bascially +1 to everything @Duh_Vinci said in his post above! I advise on the same tools. Important thing is to not rush it and take photos of everything - twice.

Study these front the back first. And Gary Ferreros videos (If I spelled his name correctly) above that Duh Vinci posted are well worth watching.
