Given it doesn't do much more than look nice as it seems to have been concluded by the M119 scientists and engineers here?
I offered $550 with my stock airbox, he wants $1000.
What have others paid in the past?

Most of the RENNtech air boxes' carbon fiber has discolored and is horrible looking.

I think said box is worth $100, maybe $150-175 if in pristine condition.

I'd pay this ^ just for fun, but not $350 and no way his dream of $1000

Here is the box, it actually looks like it is in pretty good shape.

Looks pretty when it's new and makes more noise at all times. I've seen a number of old ones falling apart. I would offer absolutely Blutarsky for one, but that's just me. And don't loose your old one, you're likely to need it again...

Silly question: do these thing actually flow more air?

There's a guy on an M3 site hawking CSL boxes (CSL was a euro performance version of the BMW E46 M3 -- catless and CF Airbox, plus weight reduction and cosmetics), which are claimed for maybe 30 extra hp for something ridiculous like $2800. When I asked for a price he wanted me to bid against myself. Pass.

Price aside, I can never find any verifiable information that they actually flow more air than a garden variety K&N filter (which I have in all the cars). And when you start talking BMW M and MB AMG (or MB Porsche), I find it hard to believe they haven't captured everything they can from the airbox.

Any thoughts?

Evidentially, they do flow more air. This is based on the fact that cars with them installed would commonly STALL dead in their tracks while attempting a standard U-turn. Whether or not this is actually a good thing is up in the air.

maw, didn't one come on your car? I saw in one of the older threads you were talking about putting your car on the dyno, did that ever happen?

No dyno for me. My car has RT chip, ASR delete, LSD, front swaybar, Koni and rear subframe mods but no air box. Mind you, the only one of those I can say I appreciate on a regular is the ASR delete. I'm on the fence about the chip, wondering if it's good for anything, even with my own exhaust mods. As for the rest, I have nothing with which to compare it so I don't know if it matters or not.

Oh okay, I was mistaken then. In any event, I turned it down. Maybe I'll get some control arms so I can purchase a set of SA brakes. Sounds like $ better spent.

hey, Off Topic, seeing that you are from NY/NJ and own a Ducati, did you by any chance go to the Desmo BBQ meet in upstate NY last Sunday? there were a lot of Ducatis there
