FYI Review of Octoclassic sunroof repair kit

I bought a sunroof repair kit. Many of the plastic parts and washers were already broken when it arrived, and I had to reuse quite a bit from the old mechanism.

The mechanisms are quite stiff and needed to be worked in and have parts added to make them function properly. My sunroof is currently working, but I don’t know how long it will last.

I’m giving it a 5/10 rating because at least the parts are metal and not plastic.

Octoclassic is selling cheap offshore copies of the sunroof "angular lifting arms", for £77 plus shipping. The same cheap copies are sold on eBay for a similar price. Some are even cheaper, like this kit for $68 USD / OBO! These are very poor quality, as you learned the hard way.

The Genuine Mercedes lift arms are very high quality, and include all the felt pads / sliding shoes which fit on to the lift arms. These pads/shoes are lined with felt as they should be. The cheap copies have pads/shoes are typically plain rubber of questionable quality.

Mercedes part numbers for the lift arms:

124-780-05-12 (left)
124-780-06-12 (right)

Current pricing in USA is ~$230 USD each MSRP, or ~$175 each from discount dealers. Both are still available.

I would not recommend buying the aftermarket components, ever. If you need lower cost I'd try to find good used original arms.

Wow, the Octoclassic description is quite the load of BS.

– EU product <-- Riiiiight.
– Shipping from the EU"

For me it is difficult to justify the value equation of using inferior parts to do a sunroof refurb because it is quite labour intensive and the learning curve to get everything just so.

Just because something is SHIPPED from Poland / EU, doesn't mean it was MANUFACTURED there.
Country of origin does not only refer to the manufacturing location, it can also include assembly, design and development etc.

To be honest it is a complete nonsense and can be manipulated by a company to mean what they want it to mean.
