• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

Site update news ...

FYI:

I am starting to see a lot of "spam" bounce-back e-mails happening every day, specifically from members with Gmail accounts. Evidently Gmail has deemed that any emails (such as PM notification mails) coming from the 500Eboard server are spam mails, and is bouncing them back.

I'm not going to bother doing anything to try to fix this, simply because e-mail addresses and various server IP addresses get blacklisted all the time by various spam services, ISPs, and so forth, only to come off the blacklist eventually. I've seen it a bunch of times, though I don't recall that I have seen such a "blanket" gmail spam bounce-back before.

It really shouldn't matter anyway, because when you log onto the site, if you have a new PM waiting, it should pop up a window to notify you automatically. Unfortunately because this is a shared server with many other web sites and forums, some of which may well be legitimate spammers sharing the same server, I cannot control the IP address used by this site, and thus I can't really control whether something this site sends out is deemed to be spam or not. I'd be wasting many hours chasing down each of your e-mail providers and trying to convince them that this forum's e-mail is not spam, every time I start getting kicked back emails.

So, just wanted folks to be aware of this -- no action on anyone's part, though you may notice that you are not receiving e-mailed notifications of waiting PMs that you may have been receiving in the past, particularly if you use a gmail account to receive mail from this forum.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. ~6 weeks to this site's major major announcement !!!

Last night, XenForo released version 2.1.1 of the software, which has a TON of bug fixes and other tweaks. They also released a new version of the XenForo Enhanced Search add-on (which I have installed, but is not running pending some troubleshooting).

I will likely take the forum down for 5-10 minutes tonight (probably around 8PM PDT) to do the upgrade. So, if the forum in inaccessible during that time, this is why. I'll probably have a "DO NOT WIG OUT OR GO POSTAL" message up during this time.

Any word on the database index to fix search? As of this AM it was still not working.

:(

I need to get into the database configuration file and change a couple of numbers to prevent the time-out situation for the indexing operation. Will try to get to it tonight.

Changing some of the MySQL config settings didn't seem to help the situation. So, I need to do more work to remedy this.

Gerry,

What is the size limit on pictures posted as attachments? I tried attaching a picture to a post earlier and got an error message saying it was too big.

Thanks!

Dan

Dan,

The size limit is 8.5 MB per attachment/image, and pixel limitations are 5,000 x 5,000 pixels. That is quite generous. I know MB related servers out there that limit uploaded image size to 250Kb and smaller.

See configuration page attached.

That explains why a picture I tried to attach failed. I export JPEGs from the RAW files out of my Nikon. The JPEGs are around 16 MB and 6,000 x 4,000 pixels. Normally I downsample them whenever I use them elsewhere, I just forgot and tried uploading one and it borked. I looked around the site and couldn't find anything that gave the limits.

Thanks!

Dan

I'm going to be updating the "Flat Awesome" skins for the site, as the developer just released updated version to go with the latest 2.1.1 version of the XenForo software.

Shouldn't interrupt anything, but wanted folks to know.

:update:

Job done. If you want to check out the styes to see what appeals most to you (visually), go to the bottom left of your screen, and click on "Default Style" and choose an option from the menu that comes up. You have a couple of choices -- "Flat Awesome" or "Flat Awesome Dark".

To change back to the original/stock display, just click on "Flat Awesome" link at the bottom left of the screen, and select "Default Style" from the menu.

Play around with it, see which one you like the best !!!

:wahoo:

I did some tweaking this morning and changed the "recently visited members" from the side-bar to the bottom of the screen. This frees up more side-bar real estate for viewing new posts and such.

You were finally able to get Scott's old hard drive and are merging 500Ecstasy forum data with this one?

Damn, I thought you were going to announce Hilary Clinton had become a moderator??
I did reach out to @AOC, but she is busy working to come up with financing for the Green New Deal. And she told me she wants to abolish all petroleum-powered vehicles.

What vendors will accept the new coupon code ÜROPROMO for 51% off?

I hope that all of you enjoyed yesterday's "Big Announcement," which has been in the works since last November. I got more than a few PMs from folks who got snookered -- and who where thoroughly wigged out by the "announcement." A couple of others were happy for me that I "sold out."

One user tip I wanted to make people aware of with the new forum software, that may be helpful to you, is the ability to "Bookmark" posts.

What this means is that by clicking the "bookmark" icon, you can save individual threads or posts for later reading or reference.

To bookmark a post, just click on the bookmark, which is located at the upper right corner of the post:

80734

Then, you will see this window pop up. You can enter information here about the post/thread you are bookmarking, so that you remember why you bookmarked it in the first place.
80735

Then you can refer to your list of bookmarked posts here, by clicking on your user profile at the top of the screen (look for the "Bookmarks" word, and click on it):

80736

Hope this is useful for folks.

Cheers,
Gerry

Our current XenForo license (along with the Enhanced Search and Media Gallery add-ons) will be expiring on April 24th. I will be purchasing a one-year extension, as I have done the past four years, for $80 to cover all updates issued in the coming year, tech support, and so forth.

Cheers,
Gerry
