Went in for some bubbling around sunroof... ended up doing the whole car.

Now the rear screen is also coming out to do it properly. New screen on order from MB.

I didn't know you could do a whole car with Dr. ColorChip?

I have been in the same boat. I took a '68 Camaro in to have a couple paint repairs made to the front fenders and seven months later I had a newly painted Camaro. The seven months is a different story.

They look like regular 124 Bosch units unless it's the angle of the photos, E500 lenses are Hella and have a clear inner section (and a few other differences) as the foglights are moved into the bumper on the E500 and the main beam is the inner light. The original E500 lenses would set this off beautifully - I think you can still order them in Europe - someone here will chime in and advise. Deffo can't order the lenses from MB but can get the entire headlight.

The roof mouldings are not painted, they are brand new from Mercedes and this is how they are new.

I replaced complete set with rear window surround and the one on the top of the front windscreen.

With ref lights, something for me to do in future then!

No rust under mouldings, all checked.

Boot release is not functional im afraid!

It's true, my friend got a new set of trim they almost appear black in certain light. Car looks so awesome. Silver is my favorite e500e color of all time. Like the brabus goodies too. Enjoy!

Chris

Indeed, amazingly good work, congratulations.

I have to concur .... those appear to be pedestrian W124 lenses. You can tell by the vertical lines in the in board side of the lenses, which on regular W124 models are the foglights. Those should be more clear on the E500E lenses, as they are pencil-beam driving lights. Hopefully the lamps are the correct units behind the lenses.

Cheers,
Gerry

Looks fantastic. Love the new roof/glass trims, and the Becker Indy Pro head unit! Doesn't that one have the ability to directly control an iPod (play, pause, skip, etc)?

Here are some photos of the correct E500 lights/lenses:

Perhaps the silver car comes with black or charcoal rain gutters and trim. Mine is a gold/copper/bronze hybrid color.

They are black when new. The sun fades them to the gold/copper/bronze hybrid color seen on 90% of 124's on the road today. It's very rare to see them in new condition like this!

:gor-gor:

No the trims are not cheap... I can see that this colour will fade as it seems to be some kind of thin top layer of black.

I had to replace them as the rear screen surround got ruined when removing the screen. So to match the roof and front screen trims all had to be replaced.

Very satisfying to have them all fresh and new.

I couldn't wait to sort out the lenses, I have ordered them,... Here in the UK its left traffic so im hoping part numbers A124820 5966 and 6066 are correct!

If anyone is interested in the list of things I have done to this car since purchase in 2008:

Oh well the lenses arent available any more for left hand traffic... Only one side available.

Im looking into complete lamps now.

EDIT: Ordered complete lamps A1248203757 & A1248203857. Final stock in Germany now so if anyone wants them... At least for 'Driving on Left'.

How comes you have no passenger airbag?
I have a old 300E that also has the glove box which i like soooo much better than my 500Es airbag, as storage is limited in these cars.

I'm not an expert on 124's but have seen countless amounts of them and never knew those moldings were suppose to be black. They always have a natural look to them

Yeah that's because the damn things fade so quickly when exposed to heat (i.e. the sun). Anodized Aluminum was not a good call from MB for these pieces. In fact on the later cars with plastic headlights other when they those are heavily oxidized / yellowed the next best tell tale sign that a car has seen a ton of sun light are these pieces. Here in Southern California you will see the occasion W202, 210, etc. that almost looks like someone has pulled them off and had them gold plated. Looks like absolute $hit.... On that note mine are just starting to go on my W210 daily driver and I'm seriously considering having them ceramic coated black instead of re-anodized.

Keep in mind that the long drip rails on the W210 were painted body color from the factory. A step in the right direction. As you know I have already had to replace or re anodize the rear window and side window trim on my W210s.

Also, as a side note, the W124 Estate wagons do not have the anodized drip rails or window trims. They are painted a matte black which age remarkably well.

Jeff

Is it possible to have them re-anodized, or is that a one-time process only?

:spend:

:jelmerian:

Gerry:

These pieces can be re anodized, but they must be in good condition for the best results. For example, the piece at the top of the front windshield is usually in poor shape due to pitting, I had to have it polished prior to the re anodizing and the cost was about the same as buying new. The place I used does not have tanks long enough for the long W124 drip rails so here I had no choice but to purchase new

We have actually had a number of these pieces re-anodized Gerry. Jeff's 201's, 210's and 124 and the pieces for my 129 pano roof. Going forward I don't think I will go that route again unless a particular part happens to be NLA as the cost delta between the too (new v. re-anodized) is really not that big for most of the pieces. Like I said for a car that is a daily driver I would seriously consider ceramic coating. Like Jeff said his 124 wagon has these pieces matt black and ceramic coating would look virtually identical to that yet even be more durable. Obviously not "correct" but at the same time sure would look much better than faded anodized aluminum (at least IMO).

Never heard of these being ceramic coated. Intakes and headers but never heard of it on trim. Sounds interesting though.

A consideration if you want is Shadowline Tape. I know of some Banzworld that used it to matte the chrome per their choice. I have a roll of it, and I used it when I bout the car to cover the delay until I sourced new back glass that is already limo-black tinted. Just saying it is easy to work with, and not permanent but will give you the uniform look of matte black.

Another thing to consider is that the very thin rubber trims that surrounds, or is part of the aluminium, is normally looking tatty, trying to remove and replace that is not going to be easy.

I noticed how the rubber is fed into the aluminum channels..I was glad I didnt attempt to paint these trims... would be a very fiddly job.

The new ones look neat and tidy as they come ready to mount...

I will replace mine, 4 inch sections of the rubber are gone in spots for mine and others looked like they are smashed beyond normal.

How much are new rubbers, and are they available? I hadn't checked (and I don't have EPC access at the moment).
