Touch-up paint, online, reliable source?

Cheers all!

Anyone has a trusted online reliable sources for touch up paint (that can actually match the paint color)? I've had 2 local paint supply shops "match/mix" small batches so I can paint few trim pieces (tow hook covers and washer nozzle covers), terrible color results.

I'm willing to give online source to do the match, alternatively, if that doesn't work out, I'll take the pieces to the local body shop and have them spray my pieces.

Are you looking for custom-color rattle cans? If so, have you done this before? The few times I've tried, the results have been pretty awful... even if the color matches, the finish and longevity were poor.

MB still sells small cans of color matched spray paint. A 5oz can was pricey at $23 but it was a great match on 040 at least. I haven’t tried any other colors.

They also have paint pens for scratches.

BTW I wonder if part of the reason why you've gotten poor matches is because our 124/129 are 25-30 years old now, and UV exposure / fading (especially on red pigments) has taken its toll?

Thanks! I will give them a try!

I thought about the cans, but opting again for the pint size cans, considering that I do have 2 full size SATA guns and smaller, touch up/finishing one, it's almost a "shame" not to use them properly (though I really do not enjoy the aftermath of the cleaning process)

I wish! I was at the dealership this morning, not available in 353U (Teallight blue) and at this price, to be honest - I would have been very happy, as a half pint of poorly match PPG locally costed me $50, and that's basically a 100% waste...

I agree, older paint with UV and fading can make it a bit challenging for sure! These were the white for my W202 and teallight blue for W211. White was waaaaaaay too dark, almost gray in comparison to the car (even compare the non faded areas, like the door jams), and the teallight - actually too light in on can, and too green in the other.

Frankly, I think if I would have taken these little parts to the shop, I'm guessing $150 would have been the charge all-in, and a better match if I would have taken along with the gas cap door for matching. But no, "I'm DIY guy, I take pride in my own work" :gsxr2:

I'll order a small sample from Exact-Match Car Paint | Premium Automotive Paint for Flawless Results | Easy-to-Use Auto Paint | Truck and Car Touch-Up Paint | AutomotiveTouchup thanks @Jlaa 2oz would be a perfect size to start with, and if the match is close, I'll get more.

Appreciate the feedback all!

Dan, says Visit us today... do they ship? And if so, do you just order by phone?
Here's what weird:

They used to have a big online site. They changed ownership 2-3 years ago, and at that time the new owners were only selling to wholesalers, so I would have to order it through a place in Tampa to get it.

I just looked them up today when I saw this thread and I see that they're advertising directly on the Web again, so I'm not sure if they're selling direct to the consumer again or what. They've been doing it for decades and I've bought paint from them numerous times over the years and always been very pleased. I just haven't bought anything since they changed hands, so I'm not sure what the deal is now.

I would suggest that you reach out to them and see what they say. Let us know, I'll be curious to see what the deal is now.

Note that there are a number of variants in the types of cans and paints they sell, so be aware that you can have multiple choices with a single color choice, such as the type of can, propellant, paint base, etc., etc.

So, let me share my positive experience with this paint supplier... I could not be happier!

My co-worker, also a long time car enthusiast, we were talking about the paint, he said he used this company multiple times for his cars, and I saw the very good match on his R53 Cooper-S, so I decided to try the 1oz "touch up" at $8.00 with free shipping? Burger cost more than that! MBI Auto

It arrived quickly, obviously a bit too thick to spray out, so I thinned it out a tad, and my oh my, very very very good match!!! Will clear tomorrow, but for now, this is very impressive match for a 15 years old car! Going to order a pint size ready to spray and clear from them $48 to try, want to add small rear trunk lip Pick Your Color - 1 Pint Clear Coat + 1 Pint Paint Kit for Mercedes Benz Car SUV | eBay

Now, a little frustrated with prior experiences, I was not expecting much, and was planning to use $13.99 detail spray gun from Harbor Freight (plus 20% of) and through it away after I was done - let me say this, this tool as worth x3 as much! It's simple, it's precise enough and best part about it (what my "nice" detail gun does not offer) - swivel container! Depending how you planning on spraying, the 4oz can - just move it where it stays nearly vertical and no spills and no dry spray (since if very little material is used)

I was so impressed, that I couldn't make myself though it away, cleaned it up, and left it with the pressure regulator attached permanently.

Bottom line, for the detail gun - it works very very well! Quite a bargain!

D
