Transmission issue

So I have shy of 200 miles on my rebuilt SV transmission on my 94 E500. Was running great first 150 miles. Now the transmission is not shifting as it should. The engine revs and the shifts are sluggish.
I filled the transmission with MBZ atf 134 with the proper volume. I noticed that there was transmission fluid on the floor of the garage. Checked the transmission fluid level and it seemed high. I suctioned out about 600 mL of fluid when cold. The color was a very dark red color as compared to what I filled it with.

I put the car on the lift and there is transmission fluid around the pan and rear of the transmission. Is this from overfilling the transmission? I have read that this can lead to seal failures. Which seals could be affected.

I am discouraged since I took my time and was delighted with the accomplishment of installing my own transmission.

Please share any advice with me....

Overfilling will cause fluid to be expelled from the atmospheric pressure vent located at the top rear of the transmission housing. Overfilling will not damage any seals.

I remember unknowingly overfilling the transmission in my 1974 Bronco. I had just finished the stroker motor and drove to friend's house. We came out of his house to find it had puked a massive puddle in his driveway.

How many quarts did you put in when filling the trans?

First thing I would do is call SV and talk to them for some support. Good news is, the unit is under warranty...

If I remember correctly I filled it with 8 liters initially .

I will contact Sun Valley after the long holiday

I believe my choice of transmission fluid was wrong when filling the rebuilt unit. I followed the recommendation of others to use MBZ ATF-134 in the new rebuilt SV transmission unit. I suctioned out some ATF and it was black in color rather than the ruby red it was initially.

Marc is supposedly sending me out another unit since it is still under warranty, but I will stick with the tried and true dex for the next fill.

Your fluid choice did not damage your transmission. Period. I could be wrong, but I believe that is actually the fluid that SV recommends. Black fluid almost always indicates metal to metal contact. There was simply a problem with your transmission, that's all. But, you are correct in the sense that it is not Mercedes-Benz's current recommendation for that particular transmission...

You are correct that SV recommended a modern ATF-134, according to Marc at SV. So you think I just had the poor luck of a bad rebuilt unit?
