Has anyone ever seen M119 with this type of ignition modification? What type of ford part is on the left cylinder head? I guess this would get rid of the ignition cap moisture issue, but I think I'll stick with OEM regardless.
Holy crap. I think that's a 119.960 tall-deck block with the CIS-E removed, and custom EFI installed along with the Ford (!) ignition components. Gotta be standalone ECU running both fuel and ignition. Insane setup.
Ahh, ok I see now. Hey this tall deck block, would it bolt into w124 chassis? and would it permit increased displacment with a stroke crank? why do you think MB created a tall deck variant? I wasn't aware of the differn't blocks
The tall-deck block was the initial variant of the M119, and was sort of a transitional motor design from the "father" late M117 (CIS-E) to the initial CIS-E M119. For the second-generation M119, which is found in our E500E cars, a shorter deck block was used and a fair number of other changes were made. I believe that it is possible to increase the displacement of these early M119 blocks to 6.0 liters and perhaps beyond.
Dude! That ignition set up! He's got that magnetic pickup on the driver's side, sending the firing signal to the passenger's side where there's a cap for all 8 cylinders!!! And that dashboard!!!!
Definitely interesting. Watched the video last night and he appears to suggest this Ford Distributer was installed due to the MB dual caps "costing too much" or something like that don't quote me.
Anyways it is my opinion he obviously did this mod in order to run standalone engine management since no mere mortal can hack the EZL.
However, a much more elegant solution to this would have been late m119 Cam covers and new Coil Packs for each cylinder IMHO coupled with a signal pickup as required. Not sure I dig the cluster either but I'm odd. It would have been more impressive to me had he got all OEM clocks to function correctly VS a digital display

"you want the big format cap, because it spreads the spark out, so you don't get cross spark" - sounds like he's speaking to the common 119 cap problems we're all aware of.
Interesting point, are the 119 caps more prone to misfires because of they're inherit small size? Does size really matter?
Not that I know of. I have been experimenting and I feel very confidant I have found a simple solution to the "moisture problem" associated with these factory ignition systems. Problem is I need a couple of volunteers who are currently exp this issue to apply my solution and report back, with a confirm or deny, before I'm willing to claim success.
Damn, I need to browse YouTube more often. Hearing the guy talk about how it's too expensive from Mercedes got me right in the feels, lol. Just spent way too much money for parts for a tune up...

That's usually a problem caused by the previous owner not maintaining it properly. Tune-ups on the M119 should be a once-per-100kmi thing if done properly, and even then shouldn't be more than caps & rotors.
That’s impressive! He said about 300HP to the rear wheels. At the crank around 354HP? The ignition mod is interesting but not much else to me. Looks like about a 50HP add but sure messes up the M119 appearance IMOP. I’ll stick w/stock and be happy. Maybe it’s my age?
Not as much HP/TQ as 6.0 AMG? So most of his drifting antics are not from HP but is from his Nissan 300ZX trans, solid welded up differential and his suspension set up along w/ hockey stick brake lever. This set up is great for drifting but I would not want for my street car.

At 3:40 it sounded like an estimate ("Probably around 300"), not actual dyno results. A strong E500E can be over 280rwhp (93-94 with WOT enrichment), on a Dynojet.

I'll make a introduction. My 500E came with a stack of records. Just trying to be a good steward of this car by changing fluids and doing a ignition system and cooling system refresh. Was also parked for a while before I acquired it,
