W124 cowl drain strainer install

The cowl drains at the outer edges of the bulkhead tend to get clogged with leaves and debris. I found a simple solution at the Japanese dollar-store "Daiso". Before installing the strainers, you should thoroughly clean out the drain pipes and make sure water flows through easily.

Here's what the strainers look like:

I trimmed the edges with some flush cutters, smoothed with sandpaper, and applied a few coats of Rustoleum flat black. This is the result:IMG_7382.jpg

This is the right side drain. The hole is quite large and allows for easy ingress of debris:

Close up. Excuse the debris... I eventually cleaned it up:

Left side strainer with cowling reinstalled. The cone in the center of the strainer works like a centering pin, and the cowling holds it nicely in place: IMG_7380.jpg

Here's another shot of the strainer, on a drain pipe that I removed.
