Re: Another E500 gone..

Well. Airbags still worked.

[sub]Oh, and I changed the thread title ;)[/sub]

Need deets ... :whip:

  • where did this happen?
  • when did this happen?
  • how many people were involved?
  • extent of injuries
  • circumstances of accident?
  • current status of car
  • etc.

Just remember....every E500E that disappears ... makes the rest of our cars (no matter the condition) just a little bit more valuable. So I am not complaining about these Russian Racers...

Hi,

"Just remember....every E500E that disappears ... makes the rest of our cars (no matter the condition) just a little bit more valuable. So I am not complaining about these Russian Racers..."

Yes Gerry, and I am quite sure that a brand new merc with lots of AMG stickers on it will please those people as much...

Looks like the occupants were well protected in the impact.
Be careful out there!

Currently happened in south Russia. Condition of the car?? On the pics. Nothing else known.

Looks like the car flipped over / rolled, but had minimal front impact. Pretty strange. Doesn't look worth repairing, but it would be a good parts car, if the powertrain was undamaged.

:runexe:

It isn't clear if the wheels failed and caused the accident, or if the accident broke the wheels, but either way...

Didn't mean that the wheel failed by it self (though it might be possible) the scenario I imagined is that he might have hit a curb which caused the wheel to break apart sending the car flying.

Either way, you have to hit something pretty hard before that happens, even with cheap knock-offs. Or it already had some damage...

Some news...
Happened on 3.07.2013, noone injured. Mahachkala....

http://www.drive2.ru/cars/mercedes/e_class/e_class_w124/metis05/journal/1527466/

Some additional insight and translation - from a friend of the guy who used to own the 036 in question.

The guy was rolling in a w210 E55 AMG and was looking for a w211 E55 or an E500. While attending "some serious racing" that was showcasing a race between a BMW 3 series (I think he meant an M3) and a Lamborghini Gallardo, the guy saw an w124.036 E500 "Wolf" and was immediately bitten by the 036 bug. The guy was shocked/blown away how the E500 looked and on that day he decided he no longer wanted the w211 and he wanted the 036. His friend owned the car in question at that time and sold it 6 months later...until the guy heard some bad news about the crash that happened on July 3rd 2013.

The good - no one can resist the 036 once they see one in person and seeing one with bigger wheels and slightly dropped, apparently leaves a very memorable impression.

The bad - Russian drivers might become the sole reason why less 036's are no the road, not a good tag to have...

Dropping down TWO generations (W211 to W124) because of the looks should send quite a strong signal to MB, I'd guess?

The 'few' cars these guys crash won't matter much, I think. They won't get a showroom-example, they'd get a trashed car and race it until it falls apart. Yes, a pity, but not as important as driving a near-perfect car into the ground.

... I hope.

Yup the Russians...totally fearless and without a care. And this is a girl driving here. :) Vid credit to szvook.

I know exactly how that guy felt...as I did the same thing dropping from a 2003 E55 AMG down to a 92 500E, and in the process lose over 200hp, and 245ft/lbs of torque. My wife and kids thought I was crazy....I don't care, I still cant get that grin off my face everytime I see it. Now if I can find a way to fit a 93-95 Porsche 928 GTS (widebody and last of the series) in my garage my auto goals will be complete!

By the way, I didn't see any references to Al Gore on that Russian web page. So why the warning in the title about him?

Usually when I see anything about Gore, I tend to not click on it or I believe the exact opposite of what Gore says/believes.

Gore as in what you see when someone is skewered by a bull. Not Gore as in what you see after being skewered by a politician. The second is much bloodier.

Chain Yank Successful.

Remember, you can always tell when GVZ is pulling your leg, because either his lips are moving or his fingers are typing...

I never thought I'd own another car I liked as much or more than a Porsche until I bought my 1st 500E. The last of the 928s are really great cars. Definitely fit to share the garage with your 500E.

Sure. But i´m not sure what is worse- crazy russians or sleepy dutchie crashing his E500.....

I can understand going crazy when driving a .036 ( remember the Porsche Museum) but falling a sleep !

I think that would depend on the accidents frequency rate between the two nations...I'm slightly leaning towards my peeps. But who's to say that crazy dutchies or sleepy russians are not around to chime in...

Well southern hot guy with unlimited opportunities on the road (you know what I mean) especially in 05 region . I love that region it is really cool over there but ..... freedom leads to bad consequences ... If Russians drive here in the USA like that nothing is going to happen cuz they go twice or 3 times faster than traffic plus nobody else goes nuts which makes it easy to calculate your merging .... However, I guess with the E500 on the photo that was too much ...

According to different comments he was going on the wrong way ....

Just a bad luck ....

I love this particular one and I saved many photos of it ..... now it is gone ..... RIP

A lot of them do drive like that here and a lot of them are arrested for it. Which back home, would not happen as much...$ still talks back home and here, you'll be off to jail for bribing a pig.

Re: Another 500E almost gone..

... but falling a sleep !

Hell…I fell asleep while driving the .036! It is just too damn comfortable a ride...& dangerous!

After several sporadic full speed bursts for sh*ts & giggles to race a smarty-pants car or separate from dullardous traffic, I found myself cruising along a stretch of the upper Adirondack Northway between NYC to Montreal. I was reclined in the Barco-lounger-like Recaro seat; enveloped by gorgeous exterior scenery, no road noise, soothing background music, the vintage leathery interior smell reminiscent of a fine wine room, my mind wandering or pondering the vast amount of nothingness about me…

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……

…next thing I know, an increasingly loud road noise suddenly & shockingly wakes me up. It’s the audio crescendo you hear as you drive ever so close to one of those concrete highway lane dividers…yes, that & the full frontal visual of a bunch of orange road construction barrels informing me that my driving lane is immediately choking-down into the next…oh yeah, some car (thinking I know what’s going on) is directly upon my arse & a the huge front wheel of a tractor trailer is inches away next to my passenger door…oh, and I am bee-lining at 70-75 mph directly toward an open abyss preceding a monolithical bridge abutment because my lane has been removed for reconstruction.

This entire immediate predicament was processed within milliseconds.

I stomped on the accelerator pedal (a good time for limp mode to NOT occur), screamed for salvation & somehow lurched just past & in front of the tractor trailer.

I made it (I never thought about the poor bast*rds tailgating behind me until just now).

I stopped at the next rest-stop to (change my underwear) calm down.

After shaking the surrealness of the reality of just cheating a most heinous death off, I gave my thanks & made a point to institute the corrective action of proper rest breaks during long rides.

The car is just too damn smooth & comfortable. :e500launch:

.$ still talks back home and here, you'll be off to jail for bribing a pig.
Same in Romania ... we had to bribe a Bucharest city policeman at one of the city's large roundabouts back in 2000.....IIRC it was around USD $4.00.

Would not agree here .

The real joy ride back home is possible with really good friends only, especially in 05 06 15 77 97 98 and so on regions. If you really do bad things on a road your $$ will not talk against "polkovnik" or "spec batal'on" cuz they got enough of $$ and will go against you just to prove the point . However, when you have no problem to call, then you can do whatever you want. :victorious:

Here in the USA , $$ talks but it is all legalized (attorney, bail) trust me on that too, I am sure you will agree here.

Honestly, I hate drunk drivers and have never ever drunk any kind of alchohol myself. So I against that in anyways. Here I know many cases where guys got 2-3 DWIs and just because they got $$ and nice attorney, they are back on roads LEGALLY which is kinda ridiculous. :banghead:

The same with speeding , you legally pay HUGE tickets and it goes off your record .... :3gears:

However, if you do it hundred times in a row and give law enforcement crap on purpose they will show you the point too. I heard about MN case with the guy on SLR, state of MN forced him to sell damn rocket after a year or so of hundreds of speeding and reckless tickets ....
