Water pump fan pulley bearing P/N

I have a bad fan pulley bearing. Can the bearing be replaced or does the whole bracket need to be replaced ? If we can just do the bearing does anyone have a number for the replacement bearing ? If we should replace the bracket what is the part number. My EPC shows it but no part number. Thanks. It's a 400E '92.

On your ’92 400E, the fan pulley bearing can typically be replaced without changing the entire bracket, since the pulley rides on a pressed-in bearing that can be sourced separately if you have the correct dimensions. Many owners simply press out the old bearing and install a new one, as long as the bracket itself isn’t cracked or excessively worn. If you go this route, measure the original bearing or cross-reference with Mercedes forums to get the exact bearing number, because having the right bearings will restore smooth pulley operation without the cost of a full bracket.
 
You need to replace the entire fan bracket.
Yes, that's what we did on my M104. And that was some years ago so I put another bracket in stock.

Although I have heard of others just replacing the bearing but that's a bit beyond me.

Similar thing to the air pump bearing but I was lucky enough to find a replacement pump. Oddly, it had a bigger pulley with more grooves but it JUST fit and all well many years later.

I've never seen a forum post detailing this process, nor photos of it being done, and also no details on the bearings. While it may be possible, it also may not be practical. These bearings have an extremely low failure rate, it would be far easier to source a good used replacement bracket instead. It is also available new (remanufactured) from online dealers, currently $466 MSRP, ~$350 discount.

I was referring to the M119 bracket specifically. I've never actually seen one with failed bearings.

The M104 bracket is completely different. The M103/M104 bracket has a much, much higher failure rate and is a common item to replace. Thankfully this is available again at the dealer, it had been temporarily NLA about 10 years ago. Aftermarket versions of the M104 bracket are garbage.

On a ’92 400E, the fan pulley rides on a pressed-in bearing that can usually be replaced on its own, meaning you don’t necessarily need to buy the entire bracket; as long as the bracket is intact, pressing out the old 29356 E bearing and installing the correct replacement will restore smooth operation, so the key is to either measure the original bearing dimensions or cross-reference the part number in Mercedes forums, since having the right bearings makes all the difference in keeping the pulley reliable without overspending.
