What brand ignition coils?

Are there any high quality replacement ignition coils for an m119 besides Bosch? Bosch quality has definitely gone downhill in the past few years and I’d rather not spend $75 each for the same garbage that costs $20 each. The Bosch ones are made in Slovenia, so it’s not like you’re paying all that extra money for a high quality German part.

As far as I know, Bosch is about the only quality one out there. There are a bunch of no-name coils that will work (check RockAuto.com if you don't believe me). Still, I'd rather something made in Slovenia, than something made in China. I actually am getting a pair of new coils in this week for my own replacement of the originals on my car.

Bosch it is then.. I did see the ones on RockAuto but didn’t recognize any of the brands, so it’s the safest option. Thanks!

I'll be buying a pair of m119 Bremi Coils within the next month so I'll post then what arrives - country of origin etc

I believe I still have a known good pair of the original OEM Bosch coils from a 90K mile ‘92 400E parts car...
May be worth a try as they are relatively trivial to remove/install.

You tell me.

Correction: Not Bosch, OEM MBz; 000 158 57 03 and 58 03, made in Germany.

I’m actually going to try Bremi. They’re much harder to find but I found them both on eBay from 2 different sellers. One is coming from Latvia but it’s still much less expensive than Bosch. I do have Bremi rotors on the car as well.

FWIW... I've heard of precious few ignition coil failures. And not many forum members bother replacing them proactively either (Jono excluded, lol). I don't know when Bosch moved production to Slovenia but I think it was a decade or two ago. That said, based on Jono's experience and some other reports on the forum, it probably makes sense to replace them proactively on higher-mile cars (maybe 150-200k or higher?).

Oddly, the Beru-branded coils I got years ago said Made in Germany on the box label, but appeared to be reboxed Bosch inside (with no COO on the coil itself).

:seesaw:

Be sure to report back on the COO.

I canceled my order for the Bremi coils today after I received the Bremi wires I ordered. They were all WAAAAAY too long and the quality was very poor. I ordered the original Bosch coils & will now be staying away from anything Bremi.

Yes, Bosch is good. About $70 at FCPeuro. M-B branded coil is $100 at getmercedesparts.com
