Hi,

I made a home brewed code reader as shown below.

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/att ... 1162392878

I didn't use the banana plugs but smaller pins to access the 38 PIN module, however my code reader only turns the LED on when I press the switch for 3 to 4 secs...no codes come out from any of the other pins, (6,8,14,17,19 etc..) What could be at fault if the diagram is correct..?

Thanks for your input.

Benzer, what plugs did you use instead of the bannana plugs? My car went into the body shop last year before I had a chance to investigate the right size, the ones listed were too big.

jano: I used Radio Shack mini pins, P/N: 276-1427 ,(D-Sub Connectors) bout $2.15..

gsxr: I did go over Jim's page, what has me a bit in doubt is where I quote "Unfortunately, this great user friendly feature was discontinued at the end of the 1994 model year." So I am wondering why my LED turn on when I press the button and stays lit as I keep it pressed but there seems to be no query to the modules taking place in order to activate the blinking back..? Is the year of my car not compatible with this feature..?

All years W124 have analog blink codes. I think Jim is referring to certain systems on the W140, which does not apply. Make sure you are holding the button for 3 seconds and release...

:detective:

I will redo the whole code reader this week, new parts, new wires, new hope...just to be sure..

Worked like a charm..for some reason the my previous homebrew decoder did not work at all...Anyway..I followed the schem. from Jim's page to a T.

Here's what it came out looking like.

Note..in this case the Green Wire is the test wire. Red is Red and White goes to negative..(That's all the colors I had laying around at the shop.)
