wire harness on my 93

Bought my 93 in 2009 from someone about 50 miles from me. 1 of the things the previous owner told me was that sometimes the ASR light comes on (limp mode) but will be fine with a restart. Lived with this intermittent glitch for 4+ years of good weather use of the car. Fast forward to this spring and I was noticing the limp mode coming on more frequently but only on initial start ups, as always, but sometimes taking 2 or 3 restarts to get going normally. I was checking some of the connections when washing the car 1 day & noticed some obvious fraying of insulation on the 2 wires going to the distributor area on each side of the motor. Ordered a new harness from Lionel and installed it about 3 weeks ago. So far NO MORE limp mode on start up and the car seems to idle much smoother where before there was a very noticeable 'hiccup'. The new harness seems to have solved those issues.
I have attached some pics of the old harness and can't believe the car ran as well as it did.

Curious about these 'unions' that are obviously from the factory. I am assuming that these are for options not used in N.A

The insulation just came 'crumbling out once I cut the harness open.

Just for an FYI, This harness at MB dealers in Canada is $878! I paid $374 from Lionel at Gainesville MB shipped to a friend in UT. This pricing difference is typical of MB Canada.

It is amazing that your car's harness lasted 20+ years and the car still ran !
