WANTED wood

Do you mean the bird's-eye maple wood used in the Limiteds? I think some pieces may still be available new, not sure if all is available new. It would cost a fortune (several thousand dollars, most likely) to buy all the pieces required though.

:apl:

I priced out a set of full wood for a 560SEC a few years back, and it came to around $3K. I'd assume that the E500E would be roughly the same.

I don't know if the black wood is available, but I'd bet that it is given that other Limited special parts (i.e. seats) still are. They made extras of this stuff and probably has not been much demand for Limited-specific parts given that so few were made.

But ... you will pay dearly.

Cheers,
Gerry

Well I purchased the console wood for a limited last year in the dark wood - it took one month to come and the guy at Speed Auto Tiele told me that it was manufactured to order.

I bought from wrecked W124s (zebrano or burl) and sent the pieces to Madera to have them do it.
Then chanced the pieces 1:1, so no hassle dringing the car with pieces missing!

Totally recommend that shop  !!

:update:

The 'grey' Limited front seats covers were supposedly available as late as fall 2008...but I checked last fall for a friend and they are NLA now. But the wierd 'green' ones are available tho...can't see those flying off the shelf anytime soon. Things like the Roser document case and matching extinguisher covers also supposedly NLA. Too bad...neat stuff to have just in case (one finds a Ltd that needs some freshening up)

Did any other W124 use the bird's eye maple?

Gawd that stuff is ALL expensive still, even the regular burl is tough to shell out for new.

Hi.

Take look at this thread http://500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?763-designo-leather it has some useful links too.

I have done (and still doing) thorough search for both the Limited leather and the Bird's Eye Maple wood trim (BEM). As already mentioned is the grey Limited leather NLA from MB now, but the BEM trims are more or less still available. It seems that several vendors are not familiar with "code 732" to add with the part number in the EPC, so some could confirm all available and others did not. (It is 15 items totally).

Speed Auto Teile confirmed all parts available, except the switch panel I was asking for. So it depends on which type of panel you need, see enclosed pdf. I was asking for the 9 holes for klimaautomatik, but I can in fact use any of those 7 types, and get the missing holes machined at a tool shop.

I already have the ash tray cover and it's surrounding bridge/cover. These parts alone costs 320 Euro. Speed Auto Teile was asking 1300 Euro for a complete set, except the ash trey covers. But recently has the new vendor turned up, so I'm waiting for his prices before I place an order.

Guess what this stuff cost here in Morepay?? .....4.375 Euro!!

Cheers

If there is any interest.. I can supply a new original BEM kit for E500. It costs 2000 Euro.

I collected the parts for my 2nd AMG wagon, but I decided, I will install the AMG burlwood console, too.

What prices i read here :woot:
If you are interested- send me a PM- i´ll give you "my" wood specialist in North Germany. Just look at wood in my car, that ´s his work.
If you supply him with your wood set- price will be surely under 700 Euro.
Again- there is no financial interest of mine, i just know how difficult it is to find a proper Master for such stuff.

PS. Complete wood trim cost by Mercedes in Germany a bit more than 2000 Euro. New.

Hello 036.

This refinishing work sounds interesting, but could you please clarify this a bit:
Did you get standard burlwood redone with Birds Eye Maple finish, or not?

Just to clarify- my wood was "just" redone as it was originally- burlwood. Front box jalousie was Zebrano- he changed it to burlwood.

To give you a satisfiying answer about Bird Eye i have to talk with him.
But- what a big difference does it make? All wood trims would cost more less the same.
As soon as I´ll catch Rolf ( he lives also couple of months in Portugal) i´ll get back to your question.

http://www.dctms.com/

These guys in CA recently did a complete bird's eye maple set for 900 USD, send in yours to get re-done thing....for the USA crowd. Seemed like a good price to me.

I've never had luck buying single pieces to match burl from a dealer tho...ALWAYS they didn't match what I have, at least with the burl. Has anyone who purchased the bird's eye maple in pieces had good luck in getting theirs to match?

Hi.

I've never bought any new panels, but I've heard this several times. It seems to be a common problem, even if you buy a complete set it is no garanty to get 100% match.

I have only one concern about refinsihing my excisting panels to bird's eye, and that is the overall quality and durability of the clearcoat. I also thought it was a specific type of wood in the bird's eye panels? (I don't recall what they called it in German).

It's nice that you have got an option for this in the US too. :thumbsup2:

Cheers

Just got an answer form Rolf ( he is enjoying Brasil at the moment :yourock: )
I translate free:

"
1. Price to renew a wood trim is around 800 Euro.
2. Bird´s Eye is not more expensive as other wood trims.
3. Of course finall amount will be clear after i´ll see one ore another "patient" in person.
blablabla, best regards, Rolf."

So i was wrong about 700 :?
