WANTED WTB: 126 SEC

Is Ron buying a BMW? Or (gasp!) a Camry? Maybe he's just visiting Cascade.:scratchchin:

I "need" to buy another car or two, narrowed it down to the following:

Mercedes 190 EVO I (201.036) - They will be importable in the next few months.
Mercedes 190 2.3-16 (201.034, or is it .035 ?)
Mercedes 560 SEC (126.045)
BMW E30 M3 EVO II (Importable in the next few months if not now)
BMW M6 (1986-88)

The E60 in AZ did not work out, as much as I tried. I showed up unannounced at the owners door with a check and a lot of cash but it was not to be. Had a nice time and he was a true gentleman.
Well worth the effort just to meet him AND... in a first for this car hobby... my deposit was returned !!!! If a check were sent I would have framed it for the novelty value of a car person, any car person, actually returning money.
Kind Regards,

Ron

Only the 201.034 was imported to USA.

I had one of these for a while, 1 owner 60K very clean original car, all I did was change out the wheels and tires as the originals are hard to deal with. I ending up selling it to a collector.

I love the look of these, but overall they are not that impressive to live with.

I take it you must know them pretty well to be look at them tho.

There is no way Ron could pass up on this little beauty!

Actually... there were quite a few "interesting" conversions in the 80's. Rinspeed and Gembella among others. Looks gaudy but that was the 80's where everybody and their dealer wanted to play real life Miami Vice.
I make no comment about the aesthetics and strange as it may be it is a true 80's piece. A sign of the times.
Then again, can anyone forget the Pimpmobiles of the early 70's....

All I can think about are other cars no one wanted because they were "over the top." I remember going into Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge in 1972 where they had a leftover 1970 Dodge Daytona with a 426 Hemi that they couldn't give away because it was SOOOO ugly and used so much gas....
Certain cars reflect the period that they were made, this is a true 80's production.
But not for me.
Then again, I am waiting for the guy with the Tulsa car to return my call. That I would buy asap.

Back in 1974 my Father had the choice of a 1973 W116 450SEL or Ferrari Daytona - for the Same price - Around 6000 UKP Sterling IIRC - his words at the time - "I'm not buying that piece of unreliable Italian Crap!" - or something to that effect.....

Ha! Which one would you rather have today?

Ron, do you think the Tulsa car is for sale again, or is it an old listing on CL? Looks like a lot of car for the money.

Looks like a major fixxer-upper. Is it rare enough to justify the $$$$$ it will need to restore? Shame they removed the SLS and converted to stock shocks.

Side note - the VIN plate in the door has a typo. What's up with that? WDB1260441A009118 appears to be correct in the EPC, the door plate says WDB1260441A003118. AutoCheck shows Tulsa registration since 2000 but no other useful data.

:scratchchin: :spend: :spend:

It is still for sale and is the same car that was on eBay.
Needs some things but still, IMHO, a good price. Too bad about the SLS but that what boneyards are for I guess. Dash is cracked and headliner is sagging along with 220K miles. Owned by the Tandy family (Radio Shack) since new. Not sure if there's any AMG paperwork but it appears that the front and rear bumper spoiler are missing. Side skirts and rear deck spoiler are there but no AMG badge.
here's what I would have done.... bought the car as a parts car (unless it could be proven it was a real AMG thing) and swapped over the wheels, headlights, side skirts and Tri-Y's to a low mileage 126.045. In the end you'd have a Cascademobile with genuine AMG parts (and Penta's) for very little money.

I'm going to pass because I just, as in 5 minutes ago, bought something else....

Ron,

I was in Rancho Mirage on Friday and saw a couple of really nice looking SECs. One sitting along side of the road with a small white for sale sign. Unfortunately I was with other people and could not stop and look at it.

I was only there for the day but after seeing Jeff's post I thought that maybe someone on the board might be close enough to take a look at it for you if your interested.

Anyway it was sitting alongside Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

There are lots of old rich people in that area who have nice cars that are not driven much.

I hope you find what you looking for.

EDIT: I just checked the Auto Trader and I believe this may be the same car. I has a 310 LA area code 310-489-6696 VIN# WDBCA45E0LA521660 price is $26,500.00 mileage is 29,467. He may have cut the price and raised the mileage on a trip from LA to Rancho Mirage.

Take Care
