WANTED WTB - Correct E 500 MPH instrument Cluster

€1800 is in-sane. The only difference (besides calibration, which can be adjusted) is the faceplate has different shift point markings vs the Euro .034 cluster at <10% that price.

Totally. €1800 is a "I'm tired of money" price. 🤣. Just get a 400E/E400 Speedo (you don't need the whole cluster), recalibrate it, and put your Lord Tuning gauge faces on there in order to replace your w126 speedo? You can even recalibrate the fuel gauge yourself if you wish, which means you could retrofit a vacuum "fuel economy" gauge to your car so that you know exactly how much fuel you are wasting economical your driving habits are! 🤓

@036 Thank you for the lead. That offering is a bit steep on the price. Have to ponder vs recalibration. I’ll send them a message and see what he says.

That’s what I am thinking but still need the Euro KmH cluster for that whether from a .034 or .036 so I can put the KmH Llord gauge faces on it and have the correct shift point calibration. Or is it that you suggest I recalibrate an mph regular E400 cluster into KmH gears and the shift points from my car?

You can take any 034/036 electronic speedometer from any region (US/Japan/ROW), change the faceplate to whatever you want via LordTooning or other vendor, and then if necessary have it recalibrated by a VDO shop so both speedo and odometer read correctly in either miles or KM's, for a given gear ratio & tire size. Getting the speedo accurate can be done via external correction boxes, but a VDO shop would be needed to make the odometer correct if the speedo range is higher than stock (280-300kph, 190mph, etc). BT, DT, with my custom 190mph faceplate.

The ONLY reason to consider shelling out €2k would be to have an "ORIGINAL!", unmodified, technically-correct factory faceplate. If it's not a six-figure collector car, IMO it's a total waste of $$$/€€€/£££.

Thank you Dave. I fully understand now. I am correcting other more important things on the .036 6.0AMG so $2K Euro on a factory Kmh cluster will have to wait. Don't think at that price that cluster is going anywhere anytime soon. I will follow your suggestions on the other avenues to pursue to achieve what I am looking for. I also have another extra mph cluster that came with the car parts so I will have the use of both, one for spare. Thanks again.

So, has anyone figured out how to decipher the k=xxxx numbering on the back of the speedos and come up with a calculation based on impulses and diff ratio and stock tire size? I am guessing the electronics are based on the k= number and if you, say, changed your diff ratio, you could maybe change the electronics to display accurate speed instead of using a Dakota Digital?

Not that I know of. The K-number affects both needle sweep and odometer, I think. Because USA .036 speedos have a different number (K=9086)than Euro/ROW (K=5585), despite having identical needle sweep for a given input. Unless, of course, the input signal is ALSO different... would need to check schematics and see if it's fed directly from the transmission sensor, or if it's processed through a module first.

Yes, and this is what a VDO shop can do if it's a non-stock setup. What exactly they do remains a mystery only @Jlaa could solve with his mad scientist skillz.

The K Value provides as written by you guys and also by me in some older posts info to which vehicle (setup) the speedo/odometer belongs.
The calculation is simple you just have to know about the internals of the car. Keep in mind that you have a small variance since the speedo must never show less speed than you are actually driving - it shows more, always, by default..
K Value for example on a euro car: 5585
This is the number of impulses going to the speedo/odo for driving 1000m = 1km.
5585/4 (number of pulses per transmission output shaft revolution) / 2.82 (diff ratio) * 1.919 (stock tire circumference in m) = 950. 1m

Same for the miles unit, considering 1600m of distance.

Accordingly you can simply calculate if the variance will also increase or reduce when changing to other wheel/tire sizes. Tire circumference is easy to be obtained from any online tire calculator.

Will update this on my owner's post too, but I was able to source a 280 KmH cluster with an OE AMG dial and will have Blue Ridge perform any necessary recalibration and some surgery to make one good cluster as clean as possible. Thank you everyone for your leads.

Posting LLordtuning information here for posterity:

Llord Tuning contact name is Grigorii Nikora via Whatsapp number is +373 777 70 586. A set of singular printed scales (set of 3) is really inexpensive. About $110 USD shipped. He requires payment via Wester Union as he is in Moldavia and paypal has issues there. My experience with them was very responsive and accommodating and no BS when it came to product update and shipping updates after payment. I would use them again. He also drives/has a 124 034 himself, I think it is a 300E so he understands these cars.

Also edited the thread title as I already bought the AMG Euro KMh instrument cluster, just need the correct MPH E 500 cluster as a spare for the highly unlikely scenario that the car is sold in years to come and the new pwner (can't even spell that) wants to have a cluster in MPH as it did when I first bought the car.

I make custom cluster for more model W124, 126, 140, 201, 202, 210 etc.
