Looking for 2 Bosch blades that are in good to new condition. I believe the part number is 124-820-02-45-67

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

Wow, these headlight wiper refills went stupid expensive. $62 list EACH, $46 discount each:
https://www.mboemparts.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-wiper-blade-124820024567

That is up 3x (+200%) from five years ago, when they were "only" $22 each list at the dealer. Appears all the Bosch aftermarket sources are gone, they had been as low as $5 each circa 2010. I don't think you're going to find them anywhere but the dealer, and $90/pair is downright silly.

EDIT 1: They might, possibly, be NLA from MB? Anyone call a dealer to find out?
EDIT 2: Link below updated and now shows "not available".
https://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A124820024567?tt=manual

FCP shows "Discontinued":
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mercedes-headlight-wiper-blade-e300-e420-e500-mer-124820024567

Importec still has a half-dozen pairs in stock, but that's about the only place I could find 'em...

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

These went up within the past weeks. MB of Portland can't get them despite being online at their site for about 44 buck each. Spoke to Art in parts today on the phone (mbpartspros.com website for MB of Portland Rx by GSXR (thanks again)) and confirmed this despite the fact their online parts store lists them for $44.03 each. He told me he has to buy the Bosch from a distributor and since the dealer gets a discount automatically "their" distributor won't sell them to me as they make no money. Not making this up. He gave me a number to call direct but having been down that road before I thought I would try the results from my online search for part number 124-820-02-45-67 and a replacement came up for very cheap, well cheaper. I bought them but can't vouch for them until I get them. Autopartswarehouse had search results for that wiper blade number and claims - Bosch 3398113068 Headlight Wiper Blade - Replaces OE Number 124-820-02-45 67 for $20.26usd each So I bought a pair and shipping to CA USA was $50.93usd. So I guess I "found" some but not sure how to end thread.

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

I'm seeing Bosch as unavailable too, unless some vendors have old stock laying around (like Importec).

Amazon also shows unavailable for Bosch 3398113068:
https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-3398113068-Headlight-Wiper-Blade/dp/B001CO18E0

I hope Autopartswarehouse comes through, but don't get your hopes up. I'm pretty confident that Importec does still have a few sets but they will cost you nearly $120/pair.

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

Possible workaround courtesy of another forum member:

FWIW, I have been purchasing just 24" Bosch inserts (no Frame/assembly) and cutting them down (no gluing) for these headlight wiper blades.

Works great.

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

Works for both facelifted and pre-facelift W124s.

You need to swap over the stainless-steel strips, and use the old wiper as a template to cut.

Bosch Z901

I have done this myself. Works fine.

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

+1 On using the wiper refills cut down for these - works just fine.

These headlamp wiper motors and arms have pretty high demand locally and people nab them fast on parts cars. But over the years I have accumulated a box full of spare motors and arms. At least a dozen. Glad I did now as people ask silly money for the HL wiper kits.

Most of these headlamp motors don't even work unless stripped and rebuilt due to the flaw if the Internal plastic gears "growing" inside and seizing up.

Exactly! Which is why we need some guidance here from the How-To jedi master. :starwars:

I looked at the old wipers and it doesn't appear to be a straightforward job to pop in modified-length refills. And, Neil mentioned something about having to swap over the metal inserts, etc...

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

Some of us, the more prescient owners, have a set or two of new, factory spares in their parts stock. Obtained years ago, when they were still cheap and easily available. :agree: :gsxracer:

Yes, but some of us, the more prescient owners, don't want to open those sealed packages lest the original Bosch air leak out.

Especially if said blades will be going on a pedestrian E420 that will get actual winter usage where the headlight wipers get, like, used on snow & ice.

You should get a yoink for sheer persistence in trying to Dog me.

However, I think you get a :jelmerian: instead.

We need a formal, 119-step, 205-picture Gerry HOW-TO article on this!

:mushroom: :mushroom: :mushroom:

There actually *IS* a HOW-TO on this topic. It is located here: https://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530

The current part number for the blades is: 124 820 02 45 67. Although as has been indicated, they are no longer available from MB.

You can see a photo of one of my NOS wipers (including metal arm) attached. Had to dig deep into my "stash" to grab it, but here it is.

It's only 12 steps, but close enough.

Note that this is an important part of the "deferred maintenance" (at the $5K or $10K level) for all E500Es.

Perhaps they can be found at one of these vendors:

Cheers,
Gerry

Wow bummer! I got new ones last fall, completely unaware of the impending NLA! :(

Re: WTB: 94-up Headlight wiper blades 124-820-02-45-67

I have no idea if they are similar but maybe some period correct (740,850 etc) Volvo headlight wiper inserts would work

Reproductions available now from Germany, €90/pair, plus S&H.

"The wiper blades with the OE number Mercedes-Benz / Bosch / SWF A1248200245 are reproduced by us in the highest possible quality and are of the same quality as the original. "

IIRC someone reported issues with those... they appear to be different than the originals. :scratchchin:
I received them finally after a long long long C19 shipping delay. I don't know if these are OE or not because they did not come in MB packaging, but they appear to nearly exactly the same as the MB Euro wiper blades on my car (previous owner changed my headlamps / wipers to MB European units back in 2014/2015 timeframe). Same size, same length, etc.

BTW the seller is a super stand up guy. After waiting a whole month past initial ebay estimates, I contacted the seller and he refunded my money. He didn't have to --- the package was had been stuck in NY for many many weeks. A couple weeks later, the package arrived. I sent the money back to the seller. Two thumbs up.

On closer inspection, these do not appear to be original, but for my own tastes they would be a reasonable replacement copy for the day when my original headlight wiper blades wear out .... maybe in 20 yrs?

Thanks, Jlaa! The listing indicates they are reproductions, but these are pretty good repops.

It was either a different seller, or an earlier product from the same seller, that was different. For anyone who needs 'em, these appear to be a viable solution.

The wiper blades last FAR less than 20 years. Perhaps 5 years, particularly if the car is driven and/or sees much sun. They are highly exposed and they rot surprisingly quickly. In the 17 years I've owned my car, I've replaced them probably two times in addition to the original set that was on the car when I got it.

Seeing as these are NLA (and were pretty over-priced when they WERE available from MB), I don't know why people don't just buy a pair of cheap Bosch pedestrian windshield wipers and cut down the blades to proper size.

I have a 2006 Volvo wagon with headlight wiper blades on it. It has 28,000 miles on it, and the HL wipers look and feel pretty new. The Volvo is also garaged all the time in a heated garage, doesn’t see any precipitation, and of course SF proper (not the SF bay area, but SF proper) has a cool Mediterranean climate without excessive amounts of UV exposure. My 500E sees a similar usage pattern, which is how I am extrapolating my 20-year guess....

If all you need is the rubber insert, yes, you can cut down appropriate Bosch refills. Note that it's not a simple plug+play as the OE blades have tabs which into into small recesses in one end of the rubber, keeping it in place. Aftermarket refills need to have the same recess, and you may need to cut down 2 large refills.

The repops are needed when your plastic frames are damaged or missing.

Bought some NOS Bosch units a while ago. Unfortunately ordered one too few, so I either sell the third unit I have or look for another unit to make a complete second set......

Bosch KSN 340UE should work. and is about 6 Euro each.
I have not tried it yet, but it is the same except for beeing 340mm long instead of the 165mm.
If you shorten it to the needed lenght, you should have a perfect replacement.
Big thanks to the German W124 magazine for publishing this tip!

For the wipers that I just sold, I had a new pack of Bosch 18" wiper blades (just the rubber inserts, not with the metal frame) in my parts stash, which I'd gotten as extras long ago for a white 1995 E320 wagon that I had once owned. Cutting the inserts to the correct length was easy. You have to make sure you have the rubber blade inserts that have the small notch on one end, which helps retain them in the arms and keep from sliding out.

I just made 2 over the past weekend with 10" Bosch Spectrum DirectFit R1001s for my new E420....my O'Reilly store didn't have just the refills but the 10" rears were on sale for $7.99 with the frames.

 Of course, not a day later after I did this I found my missing stash of new OE MB ones in the bags....I think I'll list them on eBay and have an xtra nice Xmas!
