And finally got some more parts :)
My long awaited "try to polish away the milkyness of my trim" thing ,has been carried out.At least to try the new polish
I tried it on my EvoLtwin first.
Cleaned the trim...and masked off.Luckily i do not have the worst milky looking trim in the whole world :)

Smeared out the polish...and let it sit "for a while" like described in the manual...i let it sat for around 5 minutes.Did not have the patience with me this evening:)

The polish...Autosol Anodized Aluminium Polish

Polished ...did not give the result i "thought, and hoped for.." Maybe i should have let it sit for a longer period of time..Aaanywaaays..

Aaanywaaays.....Then..i did the same..but this time..i used my polish "machine"...and i got a smooth result. So polishing machine is advised...or else i do not think it will work. But the Milkyness definetly dissappeared :)

Then i also got some new parts ...dont know which car im gonna fit this first "kit"on...as im going to buy one more kit ,cause i want to refurbish BOTH rear ends on my cars....but i reckon this first one goes on the 500e.
I also got 8 new Lemfoerder bushings for the front LCA"s waiting for me in the postal office:)Happy days.

210 parts number..with the Star logo grinded off :)

Some made in Germany

Some made in Turkey, which is fine..cause ive seen some of the OE Mercedes parts are also made in Turkey...and Greece and such :)

Pretty cool to see that it has a 124 parts number on the bushing :)

And finally .but not least...let the Oil change geekiness begin:)

Mind the plastic wrapping :)

It's very much more corse, and it smells of citrus ,if I remember correctly .the metal polish did not work as well as this .this one definitely works in a very much different way ,seems like it's reacting more with the aluminum.but the result did not turn out perfect until the polish machine was used .

It's a bit more of a special product I reckon ,it's not in any catalogue or product list in your average hard ware store ,or car care related shop.I ordered it from Germany

Thanks for the clarification Lowman. BTW good work on the videos, I am considering doing a series of videos as well.

no problem mister.I smelled the autosol today....and it smells like a mix of citrus and ammonium....and it has also a warning label on it beeing "Corrosive"...so i guess it attacks the aluminium in a totally different way than your average metal polish..even though the metal polish ALSO reacts with the aluminium :)
thanx :)

Thank you so much for kind words :)they are not "much"...but at least. i reckon i filled a little "gap"there on youtube..with 201 035 and 124 036 related stuff ..which is what i hoped to achieve. Not toooo many "upclose" "Personal" 036 (and 201035)videos out there..

thank you again :)

FYI. The R129 and 400E/500E spindles may have most dimensions the same, but they use different wheel bearings [than the standard 124/201 with 4/5/6 cylinder engines]... I think the spindle shaft diameter is larger.

:pc1:

the wheel bearings on the 400e 500e and the r129 are the same, hence the 129 parts number on the spindle/knuckle
What IS different when it comes to the 190e..is that the 2.5.16 uses a 124 spindle/knuckle...whereas the standard 201 utilises a 201 spindle/knuckle
The Evo 1 and 2 uses the 129 partsnumbered spindle/knuckle...but utilises a 201 steering arm bolted onto the 129 spindle

in the video..i just explained basically the thing about me thinking the spindles did some changes to the trackwidth...which it doesnt :)

Sorry, my previous post was not clear - I updated it. The W124/M119 spindle and R129 are the same, but the 4/5/6-cyl 124/201 may have a smaller spindle - I'm not certain. Could just be larger bearing OD and a larger hub? I'd double-check before swapping on the 201 spindle to the 500E.

:hiding:

i see that..
But there are no 201 spindle going any 500e here.
I bought the 400e spindles..to put on my 190e..cause the evos utilize the 124 034/036 and 129 hubs and spindles.:)But i was going to only because i thought the trackwidth was going to change with it.
But now there is a change of plans..and the "400e" spindles are going on my 500e...after i refurbished them :)

Wooops, I heard it wrong in your video... I thought you said that was a W201 spindle going on your 500E. Nevermind!

 :jelmerian:

hehehe i shouldve concentrated on the "how to weld on a nut to remove a broken bolt" theme..and not bothered doing all the tech talk about the spindle...since i did not have ALL the plain facts straight..other than the fact that the trackwidth does not change with the 034 036 129 spindles :)

no pictures...but...i had a go at my crank sensor today..to see if it was stuck..and to my big surprise...it was not :) So another preventative measure is about to be taken on :)

Bro that underbody is so clean you can eat off it! awesome restoration work.

hehe thank you sooo much for kind words..i apreaciate that very much.Yeah for a rolling restoration..im pretty happy with the way it has turned out.

And your words to describe how clean it is..is often the words i use myself to describe it to people asking "how it looks like on the underside"...so you are kinda spot on..and i would not hesitate putting my food under there:)

again..thank you so much :)

I just wanted to show you guys something, cause my mind was just blown away ...basically :)NOT in a good way though :)
A little insight in the "pricing" here in Norway. For some parts im in the hunt for...to "mint" up my lower engine bay.
Im checkin out some prices on the oil cooler...and the two oil cooler lines for it.
The oil cooler line that is originally an oil cooler line tube with a rubber hose clamped on.(that runs across around the lower engine oil pan).....Now it has been updated..so now it consists of two parts... one costing: 680 dollars, the other part of it costs: 576 dollars,,
The other cooler line..the shorter one..on the "right hand" side of the oilcooler costs: 395 dollars
The oil cooler costs: 895 dollars.
So lets add up the prices..2546 dollars...for the bloody engine oil cooler and oil cooler lines..

just wanted to let you know :) Cries :)

Rear suspension restoration
Did the wheel bearings, all suspension arms, new parkingbrake cables, and of course painted up the hub carrier n such
Wheel bearings, i chose the FAG bearing, and suspension arms is the Lemfoerder suspension arm kit i bought earlier

And of course new brakes going on the car, original parking brake parts...not original brakediscs...for some reason.Dont ask why :)

Cam cover seals replacement, and an overall inspection of the insides, oilertubes, and chainguide rails n such.Condition of the engine definetly looks good.Pretty much NO oil contaminants.

The location for the breatherfunnel

All back together

Replacement of the idler arm bushing.
Tightening torque of 150nm applied to the bushing of course.:)

Replacement of the draglink. This one developed a good amount of play in a supershort period of time.So it is important to do checks from now to then on these if you dont know how old the part is.

DAMN! Lowman you gotta bring this one to SS2018, that is a guaranteed TOP50 cup :D

Thank you so much mister. It is my plan to do so...but to be honest...as it looks like now..its not gonna be this year imafraid. It seems more likely to go down next year..cause to be honest..my wallet does not want to co operate with me. :( But i was so blown away by..and happy to see that the "Shøne Sterne" "wanted" me down there..and that i do take as a huge compliment.

And i just have to post this one aswell..even though i did post this in a different section at the time
But i did surprisingly win the Wings N Wheels car show this year ,as last year with the 190e.
My black beauty (and i )was awarded with the "Enthusiast Car Of The Year",of around 160 attending cars.So i was pretty much blown away..but im super proud of this one..as it is indeed the biggest car show "locally".

Detail work :)Correcting the hoseclamps and hoses on the heated washerfluid tank

This would be a superlative and enviable display of full-bore OCD perfection with the correctly oriented hose clamps and the slotted screw head oriented in the same direction ..... even the dipstick head lines up laterally with the car...... perfection at its finest......

were it not for the non-aligned white plastic "+" bolt holding in the washer tank. The "+" is not oriented in line with the car. Completely ruined.

:stickpoke:

:D

This year I am going with the Red Baron again, the first owner will be there too! and a number of 500s

Great job Stefan, your car is getting better and better! It really takes a lot of cash and time to do it that way. Maybe we can make it both to schöne Sterne next year...

Thank you so much my friend.I apreaciate your words aaaaalot..thank you.Yes..the car is really getting there now..and i do not "dare" almost to look back at all the work..but in the end its been nice ,,especially when you see the change from how it was..and what it has become.

Definetly i have SS in mind ..i want to go down there so bad..but this year it seems to be very much impossible. The cash is just not there. It would cost me at least 1500 euros..which i do not have for that kindof use :)
So im with you on a plan next year for sure :)

Interesting stuff... looks to me like defective bushings in the aftermarket LCA's. They should meet in the middle, same as the Lemforder bushings. The center tube would not have been enough to pull them together, and if forced, the bushing pair would have been loose in the frame, resulting in the same problem with the frame brackets bending inward. Crazy stuff!

:duck:

This is a long massive commercial about NOT buying cheap aftermarket suspension parts for our cars. Critical bits missing on the LCA and you can do permanent damage to your frame.

Klink mentioned that the aftermarket bushings almost look like the 202 style, with the center section left out... see attached image. Not sure if this is the case, but it makes you wonder...!

I learned early on that MB rubber lasts 25+ years for a reason. I also learned that buying the right stuff on second time meant it typically was a PITA job to begin with, costing me more time, blood and treasure than it should have. Thanks Lowman for the post.

The thin center tube has only one function, and that is to hold the assembly slightly against the resilience of the rubber so that they can't work out of place in shipment, and so that they are easy to insert up into the frame. I've never even seen anybody compress the tube end when replacing the bushings. It just takes a tiny bit more force to stick the assembly up into the frame lugs. ALL of the retaining force is supplied by the cam bolt once the assembled unit is up in the car, and that force is borne by the non-compressibility of the centers of the bushings which should always be already against each other, or only separated by a TINY distance once they are installed into the arms.

Now, here's the :hornets: part:

Other than the first version hollow section rear bushings in very early 4 and 6-cylinder 124s I have NEVER seen inner bushings in a 124 front axle that justified replacement.
Got 30-year-old 400K. mile cars where they are still absolutely fine. Replaced many over the years for crash damage, oil or fuel leak disintegration damage, corroded into one piece/can't turn the alignment adjustment eccentric bolts, but NEVER EVEN ONCE for "wear" They are virtually indestructible in the 124. They absorb almost nothing except cornering and braking forces. They DON'T support the entire weight of the car, as many imagine. Ain't seen a unserviceable set yet...

Wait, so you are telling me the only reason I just bought front LCAs for my E500 is for the friggen ball joint? What are your thoughts on front struts, I think you said you have rarely seen those fail as well.
