1994 E500 General Control Module

Hey everyone,

Need some input. So my car stalled out at a set of traffic lights and I couldn't get it started again. I have power, engine is turning over but not firing.
First thought is the fuel pump or something to do with the fuel system not delivering fuel to the engine, however, I had to have it towed to my mechanics and they diagnosed and told me it's the 'General Control Module'.

Has anyone ever had this issue and the General Control Module being the culprit?

Apparently it's $1100 CAD and 7-10 days away as it has to come out of Germany.

Thoughts anyone?

The General Module (GM) is also known as the Basic Module (BM). It is one of the four computer modules in the CAN box, its primary function is a power supply for the other modules, plus controlling the AC compressor and tranny kickdown, and a couple other menial tasks. The GM is not a common failure, you can get a good used one for probably $50 plus shipping from USA via eBay. They're cheap because almost nobody ever needs one. Hopefully your mechanic's diagnosis is correct.

The Base Module has four fuses in the top of it, underneath a clear plastic hinged "door."

Make sure all of those fuses are in good condition.

Also I believe, according to GSXR, that the BM also controls the seeming temporary suspension of Air Conditioning operation during periods of full-throttle application.

Thanks so much guys. They told me the Module is fried so has to be replaced. We will see. $1100 out of Germany...should be here in 7-10 days... =(

Seems like a real shame to spend $1100 on a new one when you could get a good used one for under $100...

+1. There are plenty of good ones available out there. I think I have a couple of used ones in my parts stock.

Yes,

The compressor for the a/c is on the board. I had one which would cut out erraticly, on very hot days.
It's an easy swap.. can you do a test by plopping in a known good one?
