040 repaint - 1994 E500

Hi all - recently acquired a 94 E500 which is in serious need of a repaint. The VIN says it was originally 040 flat black - what colour would the lower cladding have originally been? I seem to recall lower cladding on the 94 models are a different paint shade however never really seen a facelift 040 therefore unsure (mostly 199s) whether it did have a different shade or all 040.

Would be good to also know what else should be replaced? On my list I have:

Door window rubbers x4
Wing mirrors rubbers x2
Roof trims x2
Sunroof rubber x1
Fender liners x4
Door handle rubbers x4

Front and rear glass is good but will need to be removed for paint. Scared of the rear breaking tbh it's an E500 part but would be fragile I'd imagine. Would be good to know if any parts are NLA so I can begin looking out for NOS or good used parts.

TIA.

Cheers

Bill

All 040 cars (and 199 cars) came with Alto Gray lowers originally. IMO cars with either 040 or 199 look better in monochrome, but it depends if you want to keep it original or not... and if you like the mono appearance or 2-tone.

:seesaw:
