E500 Inner/Outer Wheelhouse

Ok guys,

I need some confirmation of what I'm deducting and looking at. So, I'm converting my E420 to E500 looks, some of you might criticize this, however I E500 prices have skyrocketed and I got plenty of other projects, so it was become unaffordable to buy an original one. Anyway, I'm almost done with the parts, and I have a small doubt in regards of the Inner/Outer rear wheelhouse.

The question is, from the E420 to the E500 the one that it's different is the outer one correct??? And that's the one I should be purchasing (provided it's still available)

My reasoning goes to, the inner part number is 1246370185 and 1246370285. This is commonly shared among the W124s, however the outer part number is different from the rest. The one that the 500s uses is 1246371176 and 1246371276 (Diagram part 5), since it should be wider than the regular series right???

Thank you for any feedback!!!!!

You need a bunch of parts in the rear end to do this; the quarter panels, inner fender panels, battery trunk which is NLA + the opposite side, the battery bottom plate+++ Next comes the trunk interior cladding and all the specific exterior parts which all are more or less NLA. But spending a loooot of money on these modifications of your E420, doesn't make it to an E500 anyway.

IMHO, what's the point modifying an already great car to something it never will be? Use your money & efforts on improving your E420; get an aftermarket AMG gen II kit, get wheels with flat face centers, lowering springs, dark windows - make it a stealthy street weapon! :bartman:

What's wrong with the two E420s below here? Do they miss something...? :banana2:

See, it is and it will always be a 420. I know that. I just want it to look different, what’s wrong with that? I have basically everything exterior wise the left quarter panel and the tiny “bananas”. I’m making it as close to original as I can. At the end we are entitled to spend the money and time as we better see fit right?

Nothing against your cars. But I don’t like them….

As I said in the original post. Just wanna confirm that the outer wheel house is different.

Also, why would I need the inner fender panels? Because of the extra width?
Thanks!!!!

Wow, I didn't mean to offend you by no means, I have no reason to do that. I just tried to say that the 034 is a great car with more alternatives than a 036 look. But feel free to do what you want with your car, it's your choice and your money. We live in a free world and life is too short to burn bridges.

:)

The problem is, all the parts you need are NLA. You'd need to buy a 500E and cut it apart to make the modifications to your 420.

Yeah almost everything is NLA, lucky me I only need the left rear fender. I’m chatting with a guy that might be able to source it for me. If that happens, I’ll be complete!!!! Front is done, side skirts are done, right side and rear bumper I’m done, so I’m getting there.

Now I’m intrigued about the outer wheel house and the inner trunk pieces….. are this wider?

Due to the larger 90 L fuel tank the front wall liner towards the tank sits further back. That means the left and right liners are specific as well since they joins with the front liner.

NICE DETAIL!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!

I’d love to get a 90L tank….. my E420 has a 50L or so…… and with that engine it doesn’t last long

Love my E 420, my 420 numbers loosened during a recent detailing. I was not tempted to change the designation but I wondered if people have. What I need to know is the best adhesive to reapply the numbers .
