There are some unusual items on this car. For 1992, the 300E 3.4l had several wheel options, one being the monoblock II, not monoblock 1's. There was also a mix of old and new AMG logos. The dash cluster should have the ///AMG logo and the duck tail should be the new style, without the molded AMG logo and a stick on ///AMG logo. The steering wheel also is incorrect, this car sports a early Sportline wheel, where as it should have the newer style Sportline wheel with the AMG airbag cover. The secondary air inlet for the airbox is also absent (not unusual). The grill was also painted body color.

My guess, is that this is a really early build, one that pre-dates the versions officially sold through Mercedes, possibly right before the transition to the new logos. It's definitely a 92, otherwise we wouldn't see option 990 in the datacard.

In the accompanying literature picture (the seller provides in the listing), you can see the factory AMG/Mercedes handout for the 300E 3.4l, but the car in that lit differs from this one by quite a bit.

I love the inline 6 cyl and this is pretty close to the C36 m104 motor. I might like the 300e 3.4L AMG more than the w124 E500! :)

m103 3.4L motor seems very smooth and powerful too! This car is probably more fun to drive than the w124 e500e

the m104 3.4L engine requires high revs, if you want output, which is fun, but not "engine-friendly"
the 3.4L is a normal 3.0L M104 engine, rebored to 3.4L, with a diesel crankshaft
the engine construction is quite "weak", with specific HWA124 headgasket.... amg or not I am not convinced about the durability

No doubt, it is a collector car, but like everything in this premerged era.... "garage-made"
it is like the m117 6.0 hammer V8 with four valves
nice, nice, but maintenance?

It is like a giraffe... nice animal, but I do not want it as a pet for home
