1993 300CE Cabriolet 3.4 AMG, Pearl Black/Black, 118kkm, BaT auction (Santa Barbara, CA)

Link: Ex-Eike Immel 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Cabriolet 3.4 AMG

The car was previously owned by Eike Immel, whatever that is worth... Regardless, cool little sleeper cabriolet, looks fun to cruise in.

Desirable 957 option code included, as well as widened fenders for the bigger wheels. Only drawback I've spotted is that the wiper motor covers are a darker shade of black. I also believe the badge on the trunk is wrong as well, should be this one - but I could be wrong so feel free to correct.

No AMG decals besides spark plugs? That's odd. :scratchchin:

Photos are TERRIBLE. So very, very dark. The photographer should be embarrassed and if the seller paid for those, he should get a refund.

:oldman:

They went with a stylistic approach... which I agree, I don't like it and it doesn't help the car sell.

The speedometer does not feature the AMG letters either. Maybe the owner wanted to make the car as subtle as possible? Which is why I think the trunk badge is not original.

I was in Santa Barbara yesterday “Thursday /10th”. Spent an overnight in Solvang, CA and was wandering around SB for a couple of hours on the way back to the OC. I don’t believe this tread was up yet at 6:00 AM PT when I checked the board’s posts. I maybe could have looked at it.

For our Danish friends. Solvang is a tourist town/trap advertised as the “Largest Danish Town in America” lots of danish bakeries and danish style hotels and motels. It’s a nice area for a short visit. Los Olivos has some miniature horse ranches you can observe from the highway, In Buellton we visited an Ostrich / Emu farm that claimed the Lemu Emu in the TV commercials was their’s. For the $10.00 admission you can feed pellet food these very aggressive suckers but watch out for your fingers. :jono:and Santa Yenez are also interesting.

Probably TMI

The AMG rear emblem is indeed, incorrect. The correct factory emblem would have been one piece, not individual letters. The individual letter version was introduced for model year 1996.

Factory AMG lit from 92 and 93 show the AMG emblem on the W124 chassis always on the left of the trunk lid and mirrors the placement of the logo that is in the ducktail.

The C36 is the first AMG built vehicle to feature the AMG logo on the right of the trunk lid

Bid to USD $40,124 on 7/17/25

I guess the respect — and demand — for the quirky C124 is a bit stronger in Europe than it is in California.

Still for sale. Reserve not met. Top bids below. Seller shoulda TTMAR...

Reserve not met on 7/17/25 at USD $40,124
$40,124 bid placed by cjhooper
$25,000 bid placed by Highestone
$14,810 bid placed by JCuje73
$13,810 bid placed by Burgharc

Rather amusing to spot a photo of a 2012 Daimler system printout among the images — complete with option code 784 helpfully described as 'code vorläufig ungueltig' = 'code temporarily invalid'.

Which, of course, is a dead giveaway for either the AMG suspension/wheel package or simply the AMG 17-inch alloys.

And then we all act surprised when junior Mercedes clerks churn out nonsense about youngtimers — whether in sales blurbs or on exhibition placards.

p.s. I suppose the moody lighting and modern-style AMG badge were enough to kill that “shut up and take my money” moment.

I’m guessing ~$60k is reserve. The lack of body kit kills it’s value, in my opinion.
And for me the other way around, I do not think the AMG body kit aged well, in fact I never really liked it.

784 is probably the rims, I have the code listed as: ”8 X 17 ET28 235/45, 1-PIECE”

I guess the M+S tires came on the 8-hole stock wheels.

662 is 20 litres of delivery fuel, that code changed to a wheel code in 1995.

The above WDB1240611B884451 (top of thread) is now for sale here, € 120K asking price (still same owner??):

Another true rarity in our collection: One of only seven Mercedes 300 CE 24-V 3.4 liter AMG convertibles ever produced!
Ordered and delivered through the Mercedes branch in Stuttgart.
The first owner was a famous German footballer who played in goal for the German national team!
The convertible was always registered in Germany. The owner, who entrusted us with the sale of his AMG, has owned this rare 3.4-liter W124 since April 2013. However, the car wasn't driven much during those years!
The car is in exceptionally good condition, the paintwork is excellent, and the interior is completely original and extremely appealing. Our paint thickness gauge only detected elevated readings on the trunk lid. Otherwise, it appears to be a car with its original paint.
The vehicle file contains a printed copy of an internal Mercedes-Benz email, which mentions, among other things, the list price at the time. The convertible cost a hefty DM 170,000 (approximately EUR 85,000 in today's currency)!
For further questions and information about this truly rare collector's item, or to arrange a viewing, please feel free to call us or send us an email.

German-car is quite famous for those “one of” claims.
Surprisingly, the numbers are always mysteriously understated.
I wonder what the odds are…
