Looks like a nice one.

EAG normally deals in BMW's; they sell interesting cars at a premium but they usually put a little work into them before selling. I've never dealt with them, but am a long time window-shopper. :)

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black, 89k mi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

There’s proof of inflation. I bought my ‘040’ 1993 500E back in 2004 w/ 89.5K miles on the clock for exactly 1/2 the $$$ they are asking for this example.

BTW, this car looks pretty good in the pics, at least from what I can see on an I-Phone 6.

To me anyway, 040 was the only choice.

“STILL BEAUTIFUL AFTER ALL THESE YEARS”

Maybe StevenStevenSteven should be giveing this beauty a tumble.

They give you 20 different angles of the same thing but no undercarriage pics??

Maybe deliberate?

PS - I have a special place in the inventor's anatomy that I would like to put those cupholders...

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

For $50K, I'd expect to see the headrest switch button present on the driver's door. Hell, I've got 5-6 of these, I'd be happy to send the damn dealer one in the mail just to remedy this minor flaw !!

Otherwise, the car presents very nicely as a stock, nicely maintained and proper car. No prior record of this car in my detailed/personal database. It is fairly late production 1993 model, judging from the VIN number and comparing to other cars in my personal database. Among the last 1993s that I have detailed records on, before things switched over to 1994s (facelift cars).

$50K may not actually be too horribly far off for this car. I think it would be nicely bought in the mid to high $30K range, or up to $40K in today's market.

Indeed, a good prospect for steven-cubed.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. Indeed, Terry! I paid $21,500 for my car back in late 2003, with 67K on the clock.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

As with all things EAG, they are over the market by ~50%. But somebody will pay it, because of their reputation.
It doesn't look like they did much of the "value add" that they tout so much. Other than a give it a good clean and shine. And put it up on their car turntable thing.
Those headlight wipers bug the crap outta me.
$35K car. IMO

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

Looks VERY nice in the photos, aside from the few nits to pick (new driver mirror boot but old passenger side, wipers misaligned, missing driver headrest switch knob, aftermarket stereo, and wrong wheel lug bolts are the few that jumped out at me).

My concern would be this having lived its entire life in the nor'east, and not a single photo of the undercarriage. ~95 photos of the shiny topside and nothing underneath? C'mon, guys! It spent 20+ years in Illinois before relocating to Ohio. Anyway, if rust-free, the price isn't too far detached from reality, but is still all the money in the current market... and then some... IMO.

BTW - the lowers/bumpers painted 040 is not factory. I personally think it looks better this way, but someone wanting an all-original car may not like repainted trim (or the stereo). At least it has correct 500E Euro headlights, AND wipers, which is a pleasant surprise. I hear it could cost upwards of $2k nowadays to buy correct NOS headlights.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

EAG is overpriced, but they’re not bad chaps. I dealt with them over an E46M that I passed on (over priced), but they seem to know what they’re doing and I wish them all the best. Two brothers, good, honest, service oriented shop that wants to rebuy and resell their cars to maintain high prices. It’s better than some business models I see.

On this one, yes to everything said above (except they’re not 50% high). And Gerry, do you care to part with one of those driver door switches? Mine has gone off, and the eBay replacement failed.

Cheers,

maw

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

Is it safe to assume the silver car in Philly will sell for mid 40s?

And the following car, which was bought by a member of this forum, likely sold for mid to upper 20s
https://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11791

IMO, I'd place this car pretty neatly between the two. With the reservation that the car in this thread is TBD on rust condition, which will impact price mightily.

Do your own math, but I think those two comps tell me where this one should be valued.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

lol, that's close to what a V8 Vantage with 15000 on the clock costs. I should have sold all my stock and bought 500E's.

The headliner sag! Good spot! I love it. I don't find it too overpriced either. In the UK if a dealer was asking 35k pounds, he's expecting to sell it anywhere from 30k up, which doesn't seem unreasonable given the current hottish market..

The wood interior looks perfect, the colour is rare and desireable, and condition from the photos seems to back up the assertion that it's been garaged always. They say it's 'super clean' so they would be taking a big reputational risk if anyone found out the underside was raggy..

My 2c - always check the quality of the repaint of the lower cladding. If it's done too cheaply there will be big chunky stone chips, which wouldn't happen to the original high-quality plastic...

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $50k (Cincinnati, OH)

I agree the comments regarding noreaster cars and potential for rust. My red E500 has 212k miles and spent its entire life in PA. I have spent a lot of time with this car on the lift and I'm finding it remarkably in tact. I'm currently rebuidling the rear subframe and only finding bits of surface rust. The cats and parts of the exhust were toast and under the battery tray is in need of some love but for the most part I'm pleasantly surprised. So, don't count out a noreaster, but do a thorough inspection.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

Amazing to see somebody trying to flip a car bought from a flipper.

Autocheck report included in the BaT listing is from when EAG was offering it for sale earlier this year.

Receipt showing that the headliner was reattached.

Limited underside pics don't appear to show rust. But still nothing of the important hidden, rust-prone areas.

Gotta laugh at BaT/Seller included this obviously untrue statement:

"Two prior owners in Florida and Illinois are reported, and the car shows 89k miles after seven months with the seller."

We know the car was still sitting in EAG's inventory in early May 2018. It's now October.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF LYING ABOUT THIS TOTALLY IRRELEVANT FACT?

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

Pretty bold statement to claim lower body cladding is original 040 paint from factory

I agree. My understanding is that some facelift 1994 MY non-metallic colors came from the factor with the lower cladding painted to match. But I do not think any pre-facelift MY examples did.

Bold, and wrong. No 124 with 040 paint came with matching 040 lowers, any year.

This seller on BaT is doing a much better job at being responsive to queries than the seller of the silver example. I love the a/d/s amp in the trunk - a bit of 90s nostalgia. :-) :-)

silver on one BAT just sold for $37,500...near $40K with fees.....good sign for this car, although there were a lot of comments about silver color being a big ++

I think this black one will go for more. Those Euro headlights are NLA.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

yes black on should go for more, 20K less miles, euro headlights, nicer presentation on BAT. It seems like one of the last two bidders on the silver car was dead set on silver and drove up bidding in the long "last two minutes". If black does not go for at least what the silver did at $37.5K it may be RNM.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

RNM @$30,124 ...the silver on BAT the other day with more miles goes for $37K+ (close to $40 w/fees) and this car with less miles is RMN...?????

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

I wasn't expecting Reserve not Met at $30,124. My own opinion is that this is a nicer car than the silver one that went for $37.5K earlier in the week. Must be an over supply of these on the market, chasing too few buyers. (In the micro-market of E500Es). I suppose the recent (last 5 days) volatility in the stock markets doesn't help.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

The "undercarriage" photos sucked, but that alone shouldn't have killed the bidding war.

Strange. Or maybe 040 isn't commanding the same interest as 744 this week?

:scratchchin:

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

Did anyone think this car was worth north of $50K? Because that is surely where the Reserve was based on the sale just a couple of months ago?

If he bought it in the mid $40s... after tax, transport and limited service items, he's in it for at least $50K,

Flipping is great (I guess?), unless you're the last guy in line.

I had a response written and the page crashed. so here is the shortened version:

I am sorry if some of you feel like I have tried to deceive you based off of my listing on BaT. That was not my intention. Here are some of the questions you guys have that I want to clarify.
The cladding I thought was done by the factory. It looks really good. No paint or removal signs. Those were my reasons for thinking it was done by the factory. I heard from other people that this was sometimes done by owners at the dealership. Anyway, you win its painted! And whoever did paint my car's lower cladding, high five to you sir! Next the underneath pictures. I am sorry they were not adequate for you. If you wanted better pictures then message me or better yet come look at the car. The car speaks for itself.

Lastly my motives. You can ask the guys at EAG. I bought this car as a keeper. After driving it for 2 months as a weekend car with the wife, I (my wife) realized this was not a good family car. She is thinking more newer SUVish. I bought this car because of its color combination, originality, service history, condition, etc... You all know roughly what I paid for it, so to say I am flipping it for a huge profit or whatever lol. I just want to pass on the car to someone who will appreciate and enjoy this car. I have huge respect for this car and other 500E's and was a car I have always wanted. Unfortunately at this time in my life, its not the right car for me. Sorry for wanting to sell it? Anyway, I am sorry if any of you were offended by my listing.

Heres a thought: Maybe the hardcore opinionated forums should create a listing template that is perfect for selling for eBay, BaT, Craigslist, etc... Take pictures at this angle. Bullet point these topics. Include these pictures of documents. Include these pictures of accessories or included items. This way there will never be confusion and all is happy. Forums can make or break cars... any I think mine has fallen to that for no good reason.

Well said Sir.

You have a beautiful car with the perfect cosmetic touches (Headlights and cladding) and like you said, a right buyer will contact you, come see the car and make you an offer.

Good clean examples are hard to find and this appears to be a very good example.

A friend of mine is trying to convince me to buy his that he has owned for last 10 years and the thing has never been advertised online or listed for sale. Sometimes, it is better to keep them that way.

I know the right buyer will reach out to you.

GLWS.

Listed in Dallas for $50k:

https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/d/1993-mercedes-500e-500-mint/6758772046.html

1993 Mercedes 500E 500 E MINT - $49500 (Dallas)

Up for sale is my mint condition 1993 Mercedes 500E. Car is very rare 040 black with black leather interior. Currently has 89,300 miles which is fully documented in service records and the factory supplied maintenance booklet. Car has flawless original deep black paint with a perfect all original black leather interior. Car has a clean carfax. Never been painted or in an accident of any kind. Lower cladding was presumably painted at some point to match the body 040 black. It was done to a very high standard which leads to believe it was done when new at the dealership. Major service was done recently including wiring harness. All recent service has been documented and completed this year. The car comes with all the original owners manuals, toolkit, spare, jack, original headlights, extra set of brand new Mercedes carpet front floor mats, and original first aid kit. Currently has upgraded very rare EURO headlights. Runs and drives perfectly. Tracks straight. Ice cold AC. Power everything works. TONS of power. Contact for more pictures or details.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

Yes, posted on craigslist. If anyone is interested. Please give me a call to discuss the car or to setup an appointment to view the car. BaT, wont accept the car twice on their auction. So craigslist it is and here.

lol, price drop to $38,500. this should get peoples attention.

In today’s market and with your car’s mileage and probable $5K in deferred maintenance, you are probably closer to the $30-35K mark to clinch a sale.

You probably could have gotten the $40-50K you want if you’d have sold early this year when the market for these cars was stronger.

Quite a drop from $50K.

I think it's just very timing. If you could hold on to it until spring, I suspect interest will increase...

:duck:

nice pics....do wonder about under that battery tray some...

....and looks like the most recent work included doing One valve cover gasket...? That's....different.

Anywho, I've seen a LOT worse!!

GLWS...:)

As equity prices go, so does the extra spending :D Get 'em while on a discount, because somebody said that you still need 5k-10k after purchase to make them worthy! (or you can buy Ntrepid's :D)

Re: FS: 1993 500E, 040 Black/Black, 89kmi, $48k (Cincinnati, OH)

Strange. Or maybe 040 isn't commanding the same interest as 744 this week?

Not on any week. Black hides the distinctive lines and curves. As I’ve said before, these cars show better in lighter (Silver, Smoke Silver) or brighter (Red) colors. Black is THE color on some cars. These ain’t those. Change my mind.

;-D

Still, this is a VERY nice example. Too bad it didn’t work out for the EAG buyer. And apparently EAG isn’t buying these back the way they do E46M cars. GLWS.
