Wow.... Looks like this could be a pretty nice unmolested example from a dry state. Also happens to be the right color (at least in my opinion). Anyone in the market right now might want to look into this one....

Indeed! I am reveling in the sheer "unmolestedness" of it. Other than those newer "retro" wheel stars that I despised when they came out and have only grown to hate more over time, it is blessedly free of "upgrades"...

Yeah, why? when it is soo original and doesn't even have //cupholders// sometimes a "pendant" does stick out a bit too much....... Roger

Quite! These modern caps only suit certain type of rims, and even then you have to chose the correct Color in either blue or black background. Definitely out place with 8 holers IMO
 
Flashbacks to what mine used to look like... A time capsule car. They are very handsome in stock condition. I can't tell whether the harnesses have been done from the Carfax though.

Those wheel stars look killer on monoblocks, I have them on my silver car. Looks like a nice car and should sell quick - make sure and shell out 200 bucks on a PPI though, my customer bought a Ferrari 360 6 speed (a big ticket car these days) from DC Motors and didn't perform a PPI. Long story short, the drivers side door handle assembly was broken. When the door panel was pulled off, the whole thing had been rigged - I am sure they had no idea, but regardless he had to shell out 2k to get the driver door to open and close.
 
Wow. Matt is a nice guy and very accommodating. I've got everything set up for a PPI Monday, so we'll see how it goes...
 
PPI in hand, but Chris' car is at the top of my list - waiting until I get back from vacation to hopefully go pick up his car.

I talked to Matt and he said that since I paid for the PPI, it is my information to give. Once the deal is done with Chris, I'll be posting the PPI for this car here. Merry early Christmas!

BTW, my opinion of Matt shot up even more after working with him on the PPI. A straight-up guy - if you're in the area, bring your car there. The salesman from the dealership said he saw 2 other 500s in the shop when he brought this one...

:plusone: If you live in SoCal Matt is the guy to go to especially for 500E's and 16 Valve's (or any 124 or 201 for that matter).
 
Looks like I might be picking up Chris' car this weekend. As promised, here's the PPI on the Anaheim car:

Mechanical:
Clunk in rear, most likely subframe mounts @ $968.
Rough idle felt – possible plugs/wire ends. Caps/rotors do not look too bad.
Rear end tie rod boots starting to tear – replace @ $543.
Steering box lower seals starting to leak – replace @ $400.
Engine and trans mounts starting to collapse – replace @ $1160.
Hood pad starting to fall down – replace @ $250.
Lower control arm bushings cracking right side. Replace both bushings, and recommend ball joints and sway bar bushing replacement - $807.
Draglink has play. Recommend both tie rods, draglink, and idler arm with new steering shock - @ $900.
SLS pressure hose from pump is being cut by clamps. Recommend new hose and clamps - @ $300.
Left and right valve covers leaking oil. Recommend reseal both covers and check timing chain stretch - @ $642.
Green coolant. Recommend flush - @ $160.
Codes for solenoid relay on ASR unit and neutral safety switch. Recommend both relays and switch – replace @ $423.
Driver mirror boot starting to crack.
Noticed knocking noise from throttle motor. Possible throttle motor starting to fail.
No codes for motor at this time.
Compression good: 1 (160) 2(180) 3(180) 4(180) 5(180) 6(180) 7(180) 8(170).
Tires have tread, but are from 2008 – recommend new tires.
Front fog lights have pitting/cracking.

Paint:

Entire vehicle appears to have been repainted.
Scratches on right front door, right front fender, right rear door, trunk left quarter panel, left front door near handle, left rear door.
Roof, hood, left A pillar paint clear coat cracking.
Dent on right rear fender flare (expensive to fix).
Rear impact strip has scratches.
Both front and rear bumpers resprayed, but not very well.
Dents in underside of spare tire well.

Interior:

Headliner starting to sag at rear.
Driver door pocket peeling.
Wood crack next to left window switch.
Leather cut on left rear seat near center console.
Rear console wood cracking.
Wheel worn, not peeling/cracking.
Scratches on shift knob.
Driver’s seat bolster has minor wear – some color fading on side bolster.
Cracking on seat bottom piping.

Overall, he said it was a good car, and that with just a few of these things fixed, it would be a good daily driver. Then you could gradually address each of the more cosmetic issues as you saw fit.

I spoke with Matt briefly about this car shortly after he did the PPI and he told me the same thing (overall it is a pretty good car). Also just a little insight on Matt if you couldn't tell from reading his PPI he is meticulous and obviously doesn't leave any stones unturned. So although it may appear to be fairly large keep in mind if you factor in the GVZ $5K in deferred maintenance rule (which I think was recently amended to be closer to $10K) you could address every mechanical issue he has noted and still have a few grand to throw at the cosmetic ones down the road. You can also use that list as leverage with the dealer to squeeze them on their asking price. Anyways although I have no affiliation with the car anyone in the market might want to consider this one. Being a straight, rust free and unmolested example it sure seems like you could do a whole lot worse. Just my $.02

Selling several cars from my personal collection.
My 500E drives and runs perfect. Everything works as it should. Selling because I just do not drive it as I have too many vehicles in my collection.
As you can see from the pictures, the exterior is in amazing condition. Do not let the 114K miles fool you, my car is extremely nice as I take excellent care of my vehicles. It took me a longtime to find this car as I wanted one that was in perfect condition. When looking for a 500E, you cannot simply base condition on miles. Look at the picture of the trunk lid above the license plate, many times you find rust in this area on 500E's, my car has absolutely no rust anywhere. The interior is just as nice as the exterior. On the driver’s door you can see in one picture the leather needs to be re-glued on the backside, very easy fix. Seats are in amazing condition as is all the wood. Glass is all in fantastic condition with no cracks. Tires are nearly new, less than 1,000 miles on them. All the wheels are in also in fantastic condition. If you are looking at my car you probably know how special these are…even with 100K+ miles, extremely nice cars which have been very well maintained such as mine drive like new! I really hate to sell but as I stated before, I am letting several cars out of my collection go that I just do not drive and would like them to go to a good home. Reserve is set low as it is time to let someone else enjoy my 500E. (Private Sale)

Man this color combo has really grown on me over the years, from when I was absolutely sold on Desert Silver... you get to accent Black mats with the Black seatbelts and dash in a way that no other color combo permits.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E

This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over gray leather upholstery. Equipment includes 17” AMG Monoblock wheels, a power sunroof, fog lights, Automatic Slip Control, automatic climate control, a Becker cassette stereo, heated power-adjustable front seats, and cruise control. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 following registration history in several states and it now shows 116k miles. This W124 500E is offered with manufacturer’s literature, a stamped service booklet, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New York title.

The 500E was assembled by Porsche and featured wheel arch flares, revised bodywork, and a lower ride height when compared to other W124 models. This example is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with gray lower cladding. Additional exterior details include headlights with washers and wipers, integrated fog lights, a retractable antenna, and a power sunroof. Close-up photographs of the exterior finish and trim are shown in the gallery below.

The 17” AMG Monoblock wheels are mounted with Uniroyal TigerPaw tires. The car is equipped with Automatic Slip Control (ASR), and braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs. The cabin features heated power-adjustable front seats upholstered in gray leather along with a color-coordinated lower dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include automatic climate control, a Becker cassette stereo, a power-adjustable steering column, dual front airbags, and cruise control.

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 116k miles. The 5.0-liter M119 DOHC V8 was factory-rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.

6 Owners… the body count is climbing quickly, which typically moves inversely to value, so @gerryvz might be right.

Still it looks like a $45k car to me… unless the owners know something I don’t, which is a virtual certainty.

And then parts… probably needs what’s not available.

I agree that this car is a $45K car — several years ago when the market was better. It’s no question nicer than most, which is even more impressive given the number of owners. Usually the inverse is true.

I think the market is still down for E500Es overall right now, but we shall see. I feel like we are waiting for the next “wave” of buyers to discover these cars and lift the value higher.

One thing that has surprised me a bit, creating the VIN Database, is how relatively few of the US cars have been wrecked or scrapped over the years. It’s probably close to double the number that we actually know about, but there is still a relatively high percentage of these cars running around out there in the wild and in collections, for a car that is now pushing 35 years old !!

The seller likely did just a bit better than breaking even on this car. I'd say overall it seems well bought, but perhaps slightly above current market.
