69.000KM E420 W124
What a fantastic find on an amazing car and condition. We’re big fans of the W124 Mercedes here.
What we’ve recently acquired is this E420 – A true ‘Q-car’.
The regular W124 with a 4,2 liter variant of the fantastic M119 V8 which also powers the wide E500/500E with a 5 liter displacement.
This was car was built in October of 1993 which makes it an E-Class with latest facelift. In Japan this was still badged as E400.
Both the 400E and the E420 house the same 4196cc M119 V8 mounted to the excellent 4-speed transmission.
This very car was sold in timeless 199 Blauschwarz-metallic over a Black leather interior. The paintwork is excellent, mint condition.
The bonnet shows 1 repaint, the rest of the vehicle is all factory. Fantastic factory paint without any usermarks.
The trim/strips around the roof/windows is still back – this car was always kept inside! This example shows no rust.
The jack points, rear axle mounts, floors, etc are all solid in this solid on this 420E E420. The interior consists of black leather that remains in nice, supple original and as-new condition.
The dash shows no cracks and the wood on the center console is excellent. A true time capsule.
The engine-bay of the car is very original. Factory details and tags and the silky smooth 4,2L M119 engine.
The way this 69.000 kilometer example sits on the road, corners, feels and drives is amazing. It says a lot about 90’s Mercedes-Benz engineering. A piece of automotive history that really speaks.
Before the car will be delivered to it’s new customer it will get a service with new fluids, filters and tyres.
Prefer to drive this W124 with a European trunklid?
A trunklid has been sourced and we can do the conversion.
Amazing condition, amazing spec and 69.000 documented kilometers. 1A Condition W124 now Available!"

Looks like a nice car. Far cleaner than most, as it should be, for the low km's. Pity it's a bit of a stripper, the only options are the Sportline steering wheel and rear reading lamps. No heated seats, no ASR, no Sound System (better stereo)... not even memory driver seat!

The "E400" badge is not original. The car was delivered with code 260, elimination of the boot lid badge. I've only seen the "E400" designation in Japan. I have no idea why Japan models sometimes were badged this way by owners (not Mercedes AFAIK), when the facelift 034 chassis was sold & badged as "E420" in every other country worldwide. :scratchchin:

But yeah, the asking price is kinda nuts. You could get a nice E500E for the same money. Yes, the 036 would have a higher odometer - but who cares!

:jono:

I agree w/ @gsxr & @Steve h’s comments but for €44.5K / $53K they could at least fix the peeling leather on both of the front door cards and replace the tired looking foam pieces on the zoom tubes. The undercarriage looks to have been dry ice’d also.

Sorry for all the negativity.

BTW, has anyone besides me been disappointed in MB’s poor construction of the resonator mufflers. I think they are the first part of the exhaust system to rot off. Too bad they were not made w/ Stainless Steel. Note this particular car’s resonator still looks pretty good. It’s just an observation.

Terry is correct. The catalyst pipe is made from stainless, I believe, at least partially? The resonator is always the first to rust / rot and develop holes. The muffler tends to last longer for whatever reason. The resonator and muffler are NOT made with stainless steel.
