The seller says it is surplus because it was newly canged on his E420, and he didn't know that. Asking price is SEK 5.200 = $790, but that price + overseas shipping is probably higher than a new item in the US?

Wow! You are really spoiled with nice parts prices over there, and not to mention car prices too.
Parts made in Europe, shipped to the US, but still alot cheaper than on this side of the pond - that's a paradox.

US buyers have not yet been screwed by a 20-40% :???:"Value" Added Tax (VAT) placed on everything. Skandanavia has amongst the highest VATs.
It currently is a buyer's market over here for both parts & cars. A relative from your side of the pond was recently over here buying everything he could take back home. He was astounded by the cost differences.
