The entire exhaust hurts my eyes, front to back. Note the muffler has some creative welding at the rear hanger. I wonder why the exhaust was replaced to begin with? Should look new at 37k if not rusted.
Edit: Pretty sure this car would not pass CA emissions unless the aftermarket cats are CARB-approved.
Dunno if those KONI's help value on a 37kmi car. Might be my eyes but the passenger ball joint boot doesn't look right.
Sure is nice inside though; just a bit of wear on the driver bolster.
I have record of this car in my personal databnase, dating from December 2008. At that time, the car had 25,683 miles on it, and was located in Portland, CT (likely Wayne Carini). The car came with a factory phone and CD changer.
My comments for the car are as follows:
Appears to be an immaculate, low-miles stock car with no modifications. Asking $37K.
UPDATE 6-11-09: Listed on eBay, with 27,000 mles; appears to be same seller.
UPDATE 1-6-10: Car appears to have been recently sold by same seller for $34K, according to people on the 500Espot.com BBS.
If I am accurate this car has been hit in the rear. I test drove it years ago before I purchased mine and it had a massive vibration on the highway. Told it was the snow tires!! Later on they admitted it was hit but the work is excellent they stated.
This has to be the cheapest yet most extensive resonator delete job I've ever seen... that's a long way to go to keep the factory muffler yet free up some sound... just replace the whole damned thing if you care that much... if the next buyer wants original exhaust that badly they can replace it... but never this... $.02
No question that exhaust job is a real hack. The headliner could have been done better. I would say the car was driven in salt/snow a couple of times
Judging by the surface rust underneath. This car is in dire need of chassis rubber.
Not surprised with the final results, given accident history and the punch list. And the exhaust. There was more than met the odometer eye with this car.
Lol. I'd be interested in that car as a lark at $8-10k. For >$15k....not sure. $5k in parts gets you pretty far if you're doing all of your own work and are willing to punt the AC to down the road. Do W140s have the same evap risk as W124s?
I think evaps are far worse on the 140, vs the 124? 90% of the time you pray that CryoSeal or Cliplight chemical sealants will work, and that you won't need to actually replace the evaporator. The S70 seller really goofed by not fixing the cooling system *before* taking the photos.

Even the power of a 37k odometer can't overcome a Frankenstein exhaust and other issues down below. This thing is crying out for a complete Leistung/Flieben exhaust.
Also, the passenger side plastic trim is missing on the roller blind. I can't find this in the EPC, hope it isn't only sold with the entire cover, which is NLA of course.
I think that very low Odos on these actually work against them as we all know the deferred maintenance they require and sitting for a very long time does not help the cause at all.
Yes, low odometers do not necessarily mean great condition. The care while turning those miles, regular maintenance, use, and environment means as much. We have all seen low mileage cars that need major work. There are low mileage examples that are in very good condition too. This car has had some problems.

37K-MILE 1994 MERCEDES-BENZ W124 E500
Categories: Non-Porsche / Auction type: Reserve
We are pleased to present this 1994 Mercedes-Benz E500 finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a grey leather interior. Commonly regarded as a "wolf in sheep's clothing", the 500E was the result of Mercedes' commissioning of Porsche to re-engineer the W124 platform for high-performance using a large 5.0L V8 borrowed from the 500SL roadster along with the corresponding tuning of the drivetrain and suspension. For the 1994 model year, the W124 received a front-end styling update along with a new 'E 500' designation and larger brakes brakes borrowed from the SL600 model. One of 1,735 examples imported to the U.S. for the model year, this E500 was originally sold from Chambers Motor Cars of Boston, Massachusetts, and has had three caretakers from new. A binder of service records accompanies the car and recent maintenance is said to include the installation of newer springs, shocks, and a factory exhaust system. One of the most sought-after Mercedes-Benz of all time, this E500 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania showing just under 38k miles on the odometer.
Hand-assembled using Mercedes parts at Porsche’s Rössle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, this W124 is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic with dark grey lower body cladding. The 500E/E500 is distinguishable from the standard W124 by its aggressive stance, flared fenders, side skirts, and front valance. The 1994 model year saw updates to the styling of the W124 including new headlights and a redesigned grille as well as the "E500" designation on the trunklid. The CARFAX reports shows damage to have occurred on the front end in 1996 and the seller reports the front bumper to have been refinsihed as a result. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report. Equipment includes fog lights, and headlight wipers, and 16″ eight-hole wheels dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in grey leather with burl wood inlays on the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Factory features include a sunroof, power-operated and front seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a power rear sunshade. The seller notes that the cabin remains nicely preserved and confirms that all gauges, lights, and accessories remain functional apart from the rear sunshade and rear headrests which intermittently fail to retract.
The SL500-sourced M119 5.0 L V8 DOHC engine produced up to 315 HP and 347 lb-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Porsche specially tuned the self-levelling suspension for a lower and more responsive ride while the 1994 model received the larger front and rear brakes of the SL600 roadster. The CARFAX report highlights services dating back to 2013 and the seller notes that a binder of records will accompany the sale. Newer shocks and springs are said to have been recently installed along with a factor exhaust system.
This sale will be accompanied by the original owner's manuals, maintenance booklet, cellular phone, spare tire, jack, toolkit, carpet floormats, and a clean title. Engineered and hand-assembled by Porsche, this 1994 E500 offers an excellent investment and collecting opportunity.
Yikes is right. I think it's made it to the twenties or thirties on Pcar market. I have the impression that the seller is being very careful about what he says regarding the car's history. Just my impression, though. The car seems to look good in the pictures, but I don't know how much that counts. 80K seems a great deal of money for a car with possibly an uncertain history; the price seems based on the low miles, etc.
Seller says: "I had the exhaust system cleaned up. The PO removed the center resonator. I had it put back in properly."
Their definition of 'properly' doesn't align with my definition, but it's already bid up to $32k. Since the OE cats, crossover, & resonator are NLA... if used ones could not be sourced, it needs a $4k Leistung replacement system. I think it's mostly the same exhaust as previously, with a new section from the catalyst outlet to muffler inlet.
At first, I thought the LCA's were replaced, but on closer inspection they appear to be the same as before - just cleaned up very well. Ditto for the rear suspension links. I think the underside was dry-ice blasted since the BaHaT photos. And, the "newer" springs & struts (not shocks) were also present as of the photos in early 2021. I'm still not certain if the LCA's are OE/OEM or aftermarket.

It got to 51K. My impression (and I have not seen the car in person, I hasten to add) is that this is an average car, displaying very low miles for its age, which appears to have incomplete documentation and some repairs which are not up to snuff. This seems to be one of those situations where the things the seller did not say are at least as significant as what WAS said.
A fully documented no-stories E500 with mileage this low might indeed bring 80K dollars. But I don't think this is fully documented, and as for no stories... well, perhaps it falls short on that score as well. Pity.
We wanted to let you know about a new resource that is now available to all 500Eboard members. This is a comprehensive database of all US-market (and soon to include Canadian-market) 500E and E500 models delivered for the 1992 through 1994 model years.
Data for this resource has been compiled continuously since mid-2003, and much of this information is seeing the light of day for the very first time ever. This new resource will allow you to utilize 500Eboard research and resources to track specific cars, their sale history, documented modifications, and other information that has surfaced over the years.
We are also providing analytics about the cars' production. This means that if you are curious as to how many "Signal Red" cars were produced for the US market with a black interior, specifically in Model Year 1993, you can now easily find this information. You can also find aggregated information -- for example, how many "Black Pearl" cars were imported into the US over the three-year span.
You can always find and enjoy this resource by clicking here (bookmark the site for easy reference!), or by going to the “500Eboard Registry and VIN Database” sub-forum below. You can also find a VIN Database button at the top of your screen, for easy access.
We hope you enjoy this resource. A LOT of blood, sweat and tears over nearly 23 years have gone into its creation.
Cheers,
500Eboard Management
