Those look like the Japanese J Auto 18” AMG replica wheels…..nice! Why anyone would put a wood steering wheel on a limited though is beyond me 🤷🏽‍♂️

Current owner just acquired it...and yes it is a Japanese import. Hopefully the owner will join here and start an OWNER thread.

Cool! WDB1240361C184716 doesn't appear either in Google or on the forum in the past. LastVIN isn't working but mb.vin is:

I was at Katie's as well. This is a great looking car, and the owner seemed like a good guy.

It has been ages since I've been to Katie's. Just too hard to wake up early enough to drive 40 minutes to get a decent spot by 6:30. But it was a great turnout (even though I had to park super far from the action).

This car is now listed at auction at MBMarket.

Looks like the new owner had a very short honeymoon with the car, and now wants a divorce......

No affiliation. Located in VA with Montana title. :whistling2:

1995 Mercedes-Benz E500 Limited
Rare Brilliant Silver over Red Limited (958) Showing Long-Term Records

This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E500 Limited was ordered via the Bielefeld Branch and built in September 1994. This European-market example was initially exported to Japan where it reportedly remained with the first owner through 2023 until it was imported to the United States. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over two-tone Black/Red Leather (287), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes a power sliding sunroof, heated front seats, power mirrors, a power rear sunshade, dual-zone automatic climate control and cruise control.

Modifications consist of 18” AMG Aero-style wheels [note - these are not AMG wheels], RSR Springs, a Js Auto catback exhaust, white gauge faces, and an integrated navigation system and stereo from Carrozzeria. Extensive service history includes records kept from 1999 through 2024. The most recent service includes an oil change in April of 2024. This E500 Limited now shows 201,216km (~124k miles) and is offered for sale with the original manufacturer’s literature, two key fobs, a binder of service history, and a clean Montana title.

The E500 was designed and built in collaboration with Porsche, and features widened front and rear fenders with unique bumpers and comes finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744). Exterior equipment includes European-spec Japan-spec headlights with wiper/washers, front fog lights, power door mirrors, remote central locking and a power tilt/slide sunroof. Modifications include a J’s Auto catback exhaust system. Detailed photos of the body and glass can be seen in the gallery. The car received a paint correction and ceramic coating in 2024 and paint protection film on the front clip.

18” AMG Aero-style wheels have been fitted to the car and come wrapped in a set of Goodyear Eagle tires showing 2022 date codes. The E500 featured a wider track and a lower stance compared to other W124 models, while the front disc brakes were shared with the contemporary R129 SL600. The seller notes that RSR lowering springs are fitted to the car.

The factory Recaro sport seats are upholstered in a Limited-specific two-tone Black/Red Leather (287) with red patterned leather accenting the seats, door panels and steering wheel. Bird’s Eye Maple wood trim can be found along the center console, gear selector, dashboard and door panels. Amenities include heated power-adjustable front seats with driver-side memory, a power-adjustable steering column, power rear sunshade, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and an auto-dimming rear view mirror. A Carrozzeria head unit is installed with a matching navigation system in addition to checkered floor mats from Karo.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts an instrument cluster featuring white dials with a central 260-km/h speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, analog clock, outside temperature sensor and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer currently shows 201,216km (~124k miles).

The E500 is powered by a 5.0-Liter DOHC V8 which produces 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Underbody photos are viewable in the gallery. Extensive service history includes records kept from 1999 through 2024. The most recent service includes an oil change in April of 2024. The seller has included a video showing the documented service history.

This E500 Limited now shows 201,216km (~124k miles) and is offered for sale with the original manufacturer’s literature, two key fobs, a binder of service history, and a clean Montana title.

I've never seen that rubber ring wrapped over the flange on the shock tower mounts?

Me neither. Looks like an aftermarket modification, possibly to reduce suspension travel near full extension?

Bid to $64,500. The seller seemed uninterested in PPI's except for the winning bidder, if I'm understanding the comments correctly.

Bidder #3 and #4 bailed at $63k and $59k respectively. Four bidders in the low 60's. I wonder what reserve was.

Up on Rennlist for $75k, which seems to have been the reserve.

MODERATOR EDIT: The owner of this car has posted additional information here.

Asking $70k / OBO? Seller should have taken the $65k offered in summer 2024...

I think $70k range plus minus a few thousand is a pretty fair price, especially anyone who is very into mercedes classic silver on black.
Mileage is ok. condition seems ok. Swap out a few of the non OEM aspects....

New member here. I looked at this car personally yesterday. I’m new to the 500 E/E 500 Limited world but the car looked exceptionally clean from an exterior and interior perspective.

I’m very tempted to move forward but wanted to ask the forum for any specific recommendations regarding a PPI for this vehicle both in terms of issues you’ve witnessed from the attached photos and actual recommendations for shops down here in Miami or South Florida.

I’ve been daily driving my 997.2 Porsche manual turbo and want something more relaxed that I can reliably use on a day-to-day basis. I probably would put about 4000 miles a year on the car. Should I be concerned about the mileage being 120,000 considering it has so many service records from Japan?

Would love to get the more experienced members opinions. Thanks in advance.

120kmi is not a concern on a well-maintained E500E. There aren't any particular red flags that jump out from the photos, other than the few items noted earlier in this thread: weird aftermarket springs and front LCA bushings, headlights are for wrong-hand-drive traffic, etc. Service records in Japanese can get a rough translation from Google, sample below.

A forum member in the Florida area may be able to recommend a shop near you (@yao500e ?). If possible, test drive another couple of 500E's for comparison before buying this one. If you don't know how a good 500E should drive, and the PPI shop doesn't either, you might be missing out on the best experience.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Definitely need to find a shop for a PPI. @yao500e , do you have any recommendations?

I really want to find a shop that is familiar with these cars. I called up Renntech and didn’t get a great vibe from them even though they are close by.

I’ve owned all kinds of collectible and sports cars so I’m no stranger to maintenance costs and don’t mind them. I just don’t want to purchase a car and immediately be on the hook for 5-10k. Not to mention I want to be DRIVING it!

Sadly, RENNtech may not have techs with deep knowledge of the 124 chassis anymore. Those guys retired long ago. RT started out as a Mercedes-only tuner but morphed into mostly a software/tuning company with some bolt-on accessories for the exotic car market, because of the high profit margin involved with that customer base. Recently they advertised a "classic" division and have done a small number (like, single digits) of custom engine builds on 90's cars. But anyway - I don't think RT are necessarily the best for a PPI on a stock W124 of any kind. If you want them to build you a 6L motor for $50-$75k, sure. Blue Ridge is one of the few shops that knows these cars intimately, but they're not cheap, and not local either (Atlanta area).

Oh, and sadly, there's a decent chance any E500E you buy will be hiding $5-$10k in deferred maintenance. Rare exceptions will be enthusiast-owned, open-chequebook-maintained cars that may be sub-$5k... but those are few and far between. If there's not a ton of detailed record showing most of the common failure items already sorted, you can assume all that stuff "needs done", as the kids say these days. Search the forum for past discussions on Gerry's Law of $5-$10k deferred maintenance. (That's paying a shop, btw... if DIY, cut those estimates in half.)

@Savethestickshift hello,
I live between South Florida, NYC and Taipei Taiwan (where my father is from)
Message me direct. We can discuss and even do a call and talk. I'll be glad to try to give some advice on buying this e500e and joining the club!
Its the least I can do. Many people like terry, gsxr and gerry and countless others have helped me a lot here.

I just looked at all the car pics again and read @gsxr comments. It does seem very minimal any non-factory things that we added to the car. You can easily get it back to 100% OEM parts and specs OR frankly, it doesnt even matter that much!

744 silver is my personal favorite for e500e. This car just looks AMAZING. I wish my e500 was silver. its BLUE-BLACK - METALLIC PAINT (199U) which is ok but 744 is TOPS in my opinion. that two tone red interior is also very cool. That Japan style sportline steering wheel is also very expensive on its own.

i’m trying to direct message you but I think I don’t have permissions yet because I’m such a new member. If you can message me, that would be great. Would love to jump on the phone sooner than later.

We have a similar geographical background. I’ve lived most of my life in New York and I’ve been in Miami for the last five years Also spent several years living in Asia specifically Shanghai, not Taiwan, but closer than most

I also cant send you a direct message from my end.....you got instagram or telegram ID?

Admins, Is there any reason why we can't seem to send direct messages?
DM's are restricted for new users. There were too many scammers bilking forum members out of $$$. I'm not sure of the exact criteria (may not be public, so scammers don't find a way around it) but after a new member has been around for a while (weeks? months?) and posted a number of times, they will be able to send DM's.

@xfadmin can provide more details if he's not too busy chasing pesky Jedi around the multiverse.

Hope to meet you @ArauzMotoring. Would love to connect if I can ever get permission to send and receive messages on here. Do you have an instagram handle we can connect through?

PPI came back exceptionally clean. Just had to replace a window regulator and clutch fan. Everything else was tip top. I was expecting to have significantly more deferred maintenance. This was a very well cared for example.

As an FYI, the OE/OEM fan clutch has been NLA for years. Only aftermarket clutches are available and their function & reliability record is mixed, at best. Hopefully whatever clutch was installed, does not remain engaged to redline - a common flaw with the cheap aftermarket clutches. It should decouple around 3500rpm or so. There's not much choice though, unless you want to invest in an OEM PWM electric fan conversion, which is neither easy nor cheap to do properly...
