does anyone know if facelifted W210 headlights will fit into a 99 model? I'm pessimistic but thought I would ask.

i have buyed last week here in Germany pre mopf xenon lenses from Hella with produktion date 31,03,2020 .Fitted perfekt and looks great.
And the price was not bad. 150Euro per site.

I've got a pair of good pre-facelift standard headlights I would sell if you're looking for a set. PM me if you are. I think I even rewired them so they don't have the self destructing wires any more.

Drew, are you looking for lenses are complete lights? Both are available new, but lenses may have to come from across the pond, depending if you want halogen or HID. I got a pair of new Hella HID lenses for my '97 and Lamin-X'd them (not fun on the egg shape, lemme tell you.)

I just saw these Mercedes Halo Headlights for E Class Fits 00-02 - auto parts - by... local and did not realize they are aftermarket initially. They look nice though and I never knew if the pre and post 210 models might share the light assemblies. I should have known they didn't. Mercedes never seems to share even the simplest parts between models generally. So my headlights are actually in very nice shape. Thanks for the offer. Nice to know you have them at least for now. Do I need to know about wiring issues on my units?

See above post. I am always interested in an improvement in what I currently have though. It's nice to know they are still available. I need to go back to one of your previous comments about the options, if any, for my car. I believe you said 1999 models had Halogen or HID lights with standard hi beams.

HID (Xenon) lights were optional on all years of the 210, but as mentioned previously, pre/post facelift are different.

These are HID's for low beam only. The high beam is still a standard halogen. With new lenses, the HID light output is - IMO - amazing. But the high beams are almost a joke by comparison. Fortunately the low beams are so good, you don't need the highs much. I wish it was this easy to get killer low beams on the W124. The .036 Euro lights can have killer high beams with overwatt bulbs, but lows are still not great.

The W211 bi-Xenon/HID are the best I've ever driven. Blindingly bright for both low AND high beams. And you can enable ILS (sort of "Euro mode") with SDS developer. Neat stuff.

I have a love/hate relationship with LaminX. I LaminXed some egg headlights on my sport beetle 5 weeks ago. I am still waiting fir the last three bubbles to go away. Grrrrrrrr.

Pop the covers off the backs and have a look. The insulation failure issue is across the board from what I've found, both on facelift and pre-facelift models. If you don't, you'll know it when your headlights start going out intermittently.

The youngest son bought some Depo HIDs for his 2002 E320 and they're nice. Makes a significant difference in nighttime visibility, he says.

Be aware that on pre-facelift models a headlight swap is a 10 minute job. on facelift models it requires removing the bumper, more like an hour.

Drew, those look like halogen aftermarket lights. Don't expect a lotta lumens.

Whoa. $200 for complete (aftermarket) HID lights? Genuine Philips burners can be $100/pair!!

:wow:

OK, understand the difference now. I think I'll stick with what I have. Thanks all for the comments.

Yup. Depos for either flavor of W210 are around $200 for the pair. They're very well made, I was impressed with what I saw.

Amazon.com: Depo 340-1117PXAS Chrome Headlight Assembly Projector compatible with Mercedes Benz E Class: Automotive
Unless I'm misreading something, those Depos are $200 each ($400/pair), and are halogens in "projector style"... not HID / Xenons. Some of the reviews are interesting. Has he driven at night with them yet? I see some unspecified brands for $200/pair (link), but not Depo brand; also halogens.

Storytime: My first 210 came with aftermarket, unknown-brand halogen lamps with smoke interiors and "projector style" internals. The light output was abysmal, to put it kindly. A pair of old (non-LED) MagLites taped to the fenders would have been more useful. I polished the lenses and they looked better, but light output was still awful. My second 210 had factory halogens with nice lenses. I was shocked at how good those were on low beam, far better than 124 Euro lights (Bosch/Hella, not aftermarket). I later replaced the lights on the first car, removing the aftermarket stuff and installing used OE HID/Xenon, which were better than aftermarket but (initially) not as good as the factory halogens on the second car. This surprised me. Then I installed new Hella lenses on the HID lamps, and they outperformed the halogens as described back in post #10. Bottom line, the plastic lenses can make a real difference in light output, and polishing doesn't always resurrect old ones.
