500e acceleration problem

Hello, I'm writing to introduce myself. I own a 1993 W124 500E (first generation). I have a slight problem after having the transmission and exhaust repaired. There's a loud noise coming from the fuel pump area. The idle is stable, but it's impossible to drive the car; it stalls immediately, even when I try to accelerate. There are hesitations when accelerating while stationary. There are no warning lights on the dashboard. I don't understand this problem, which appeared when I restarted the car.

It's possible the fuel pumps are failing. Since you can't drive it, and it stalls when trying to accelerate, connect a fuel pressure gauge to the rail and see what the fuel pressure is when the engine stalls. If fu el pressure ever drops below about 45psi / 3 bar, the pumps need replacement. If the pumps are original, they are overdue for replacement anyway. Get OEM Bosch pumps only (part numbers and other items to replace at the same time are documented in this thread).

It's probably a coincidence that this happened after the transmission and exhaust repairs. However, also make sure the fuel pump relay is not clicking, located below the rear passenger seat cushion. If this is clicking at idle, the LH module needs the capacitors replaced.

Welcome to the forum!
