I like the new version of the site very much. I am still exploring it, but I am very impressed.
Since lately I've been cruising more here, reading beyond the C126 section, I am often times wondering, how do you have time for all this in only 24 hours a day, Gerry??? Family, job, cars to maintain, write-ups and ... a site like this?

Interestingly, I did my first "dump" (backup) of the new MySQL database that backs up this site. This was a net-new database that I created, and into which the migrated data from the old vBulletin 500Eboard database was imported into.
The size of the "new" XenForo site database is 93.6 MB (compressed) and 381 MB (uncompressed).
The size of the "old" vBulletin site database is 126.2 MB (compressed) and 494.3 MB (uncompressed).

Just started working (again) on the Elasticsearch implementation. Oy! It's very complex. I removed the elasticsearch software from the server twice, I'm going to have to start over from scratch, get it configured, and then add the add-on for XenForo and index the search capability. This is not going to be fun, nor easy.
I'm going to work on the rotating banner issue next. I had it working on my last "test" implementation on version 2.0 of XenForo about a year ago, but I forgot how I did it, so I have to start all over again researching it.

vBulletin only allowed text color changes. You couldn't (nor can't here) change any background color.Gerry, is there an option to highlight text (background color change) instead of just changing the text color? I can't figure out how to do that. (Also can't remember if that was possible in VB.)
Thanks. This is a redirection issue, and I will see about getting it fixed. Should be pretty easy to do as this is a common issue when forums change over, and XenForo has a built-in redirection system for thread references that is supposed to point requests to old/bad threads to the proper thread on the new forum.
BTW, I know it's probably not fixable, but what's up with JC220's threads showing all the funky code apparently created by whatever app he's using to post with? VB always hid this, but XF shows it all.

I'm working on the re-direction issue, and hope to have it solved in the next couple of days. This will allow links in posts here on the new forum, when they post to posts on the old forum, to redirect automatically back to the correct thread on this forum.
Also, I had a minor victory tonight ... the old forums have been "borked" since the migration, and I've not been able to get into them, view threads, etc. The forums have been turned off, but have been inaccessible. This would have posed a major issue for migrating photo albums and the Wiki over to the new forum.
I was able to "repair" Things on the old forum so that it is now accessible again (but it is still turned off). Now I can work on the installation of the Wiki software, and photo album software, and concentrate on migrating them from the old forum to the new forum.

This morning I added the XenForo Media Gallery, which I purchased for an additional USD $65.
I will be implementing this Gallery later today, and it should import all of the photo galleries from the old vBulletin-based site seamlessly, preserving all of the data. Once this is done, I will cross this off of the "bug fixes" list.

I got busy yesterday and didn't have the time to get this import done. I will be taking care of it around Noon EDT today. Should be no interruptions to service with the main forums.
I'll let folks know once this task is done.

It appears that the import was only partially successful. All of the albums came through, but it seems that few of the actual images did. So, people (myself included) are going to have to go in and upload or re-add images to the albums they've created in the past.
Frustrating, but unfortunately it would be too much work for me to identify images and put them back into anyone's album except my own.
I will follow up with individual PMs to each album owner, asking them to put images back in their album if they can't see them.
The main thing is that we have the capability on this site for albums, and it's totally integrated with the rest of the forum.
If you own an album, please consider re-uploading your images to it. Most albums didn't have too many images per album, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue, practically speaking.
That is weird. I linked to the image using the [ IMG] BBcode, and interestingly the Red X showed up. Then, when I went in to edit the image/URL link, the image showed up properly in the edit window.
I went ahead and attached the image, but it appears that there is something wrong (very likely a configuration issue) with the image-linking function. Let me mess around with thing on some test posts, and we'll see what happens.

OK, I got it working again. It was a conflict issue.

I'm going to have the system display linked images that it imports, as thumbnails, as in the previous post. This post I had it set NOT to display as a thumbnail. I think it's better to go with it as a thumbnail size image, which can then be clicked on and displayed in the light-box format.
I'm going to call this one FIXED.
Here's how it's going to look:
A few minor tweaks of note, today:
On a temporary basis, I added a "500Eboard" header image to the FlatAwesome skin, so if you selecet that skin, you will now see a banner image on the screen.
In addition, I also "exposed" the sub-forums for those forums that have them (for example, the regional sub-forums for MB repair shops, and the sub-forums for the C126 Coupes forum).

Some more photo albums migrated over today.....many more yet to go.....
Is the "Edit" button disappearing after a while (let's say 24 hours after the posting?)? I got that impression.
Gerry, if a user deletes their thread content/photos, is the info archived so it could be resurrected? I.e., someitmes when someone lists a car for sale, they delete the post+photos after it sells. We try to prevent that from happening if possible.
Yes, it does, you are right. There was one particular post of mine that did not have that button and that's the one that caught my eye, but I guess there was a reason for that. Anyway, thanks for your reply, being able to edit indefinitely is a nice feature, we can update older posts with new info w/o adding additional posts . Nice feature!

The persistence as for the "change width" mode is achieved via cookies, so evidently your browser may not be storing cookies? The cookie is stored per device and/or browser, not per account.
Here's the billing costs for operation of the forum in March. I'll probably get this down to just under $30 a month, but you get the idea.
The old forum was about $10-12 a month to operate.
This DOES NOT include the cost of licenses for the forum software (an annual cost of around $100), as well as the forum skins ($25 annually), the Wiki software ($50 annually), and various other small modifications ($35 annually).
