ABS Light w/DTC 24 on ABS/ASR Module (Socket 6)

I am getting an ABS light accompanied by a DTC 24 on the ABS/ASR module (ASR Charging Pump M15). I cannot clear either the ABS light or the DTC 24, so I'm assuming that the DTC 24 is causing the ABS light.

Anyone ever have an ASR charging pump go bad or replace one? It sounds expensive. It doesn't seem to affect the braking at all.

I think this is a pretty rare failure. Make sure the connector is tight and not corroded. It's the little pump located below the master cylinder. See FSM job 42-0818. New is $1900 list, but I bet you can find one used for under $50, even less via a Pick+Pull. That is if the pump is actually defective!

Jon, my ASR light was illuminated for a year until I changed my brake fluid.
That was about 1,500mi. ago.
There must have been an air pocket somewhere in the system because the ASR light has not reappeared.

Thanks, guys. I took Dave's advice and sure enough he was right. I guess the connectors oxidize after 20 years. The ABS light is out and the DTC 24 has been reset. I hope that's all it was.

Trae, I wish it was that simple in my case. There's no room in the reservoir to top off my brake fluid and with the ASR system, I really don't want to mess with trying to bleed the whole system. I have been running with my ASR light bulb removed because I got tired of looking at it come on two minutes after starting the engine.

Good afternoon guys, resurrecting an older thread here, but I have a 94 E420 and every time I step on the brakes, the ABS light comes on. Dave, can you be of any help?

Edit: I now realize that the pump noted above is for ASR- which this car does not have, mystery solved for that.

Can you check fault codes on diagnostic pin #6? That should help narrow it down. Wild guessing it's related to the switch at the brake pedal, but the code(s) should confirm.
