Can anyone help, i noticed that my poly belt was getting bad, when i investigated further it appears that the last owner had a replacement alternator fitted but it only has a 5 grove pulley where as the rest of the pulleys are 6 grove, so the belt gets shredded straight away, got the alternator out removed the pulley and thought it would be easy to just get a new one with 6 groves but i can not find one anywhere, can anyone assist
Thanks

Hi see picture of the pulley that was fitted and the new one supplied by Mercedes’ it’s just not compatabel

MB Classic says the pulley is still available, p/n A1191550315. This is ~$50 USD MSRP, although US online/internet dealers are showing NLA, which conflicts with MB Classic info. Contact your local dealership and ask them to check worldwide inventory / availability.

Alternately, buy a replacement/rebuilt Bosch alternator which includes the new 6-rib pulley. Or upgrade to a larger alternator (143A-150A) from a later 1990's model.

I can't believe ANY shop would install an alternator with a completely wrong pulley. Makes me wonder if the alternator itself may be incorrect as well.

Hi Thanks for the reply, the part i ordered is that part number but it is not compatible with the pulley fitted to the alternator if you look at the picture you can see the difference, the one fitted is a Hella part No CA1081IR

probably easiest to get a new alternator

Your photo doesn't show why the pulleys would not be compatible. Is the shaft hole a different diameter or something? But yes, probably easiest to replace the alternator with the correct one.

It's probably that early. M119s had a larger belt and in later years they downgraded the number of ribs.

So if the OPs car had a different belt than this replacement alternator pulley caters for then it will tear up the belt.

It is only the pulley you need to replace though. As Gixer said surprising any shop would let that out like that....

If I were you I would carefully count the ribs on one of your other original pulleys then pull the current pulley and go to a MB parts yard and swap the pulley out with one that suits.
