Anyone have any leads on any?

MB are saying they are waiting for new stock, could be months and cannot even place an order right now.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

A friend of mine has had one on order with MB Milton Keynes for some months, and has now been told that a batch (from India?) had to be returned as they were poorly manufactured, so a further period of wait is required. I'm not sure how accurate this story is, but he's certainly not having any success in getting one!

I believe Lowman (Norge) - http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8171&page=13 - post #754, is also having problems.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Jonathan - I had noticed your offering.
Unfortunately I hope to build this engine back up within the next week or so. I need one already made.
Do you have any ready done that I could buy and then return mine to you? Even if I have to pay a deposit until you receive mine?

Otherwise al I can do is repair the insulation for now and wait until they are available again.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Hello group. Since this harness is NLA, and I have more time than money, I will tackle removal, repair, and replacement myself. Is there any interest in photos, etc? If so, should I just continue on this thread?

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

The decision to make a detailed, pictorial How-To would be a good resource. Many will just send it off to Jono to rebuild, but understanding the How To would benefit the entire knowledge base of the average owner. Do it if you wish!

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

BTW ---- for folks who are on the European side of the Atlantic ocean, there may be other sources to remanufacture these NLA harnesses as well. (Although Stateside I would certainly ask for Jono's services)

I ran across this the other day (From Germany)

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

I rebuilt my original but wasnt that happy with my own efforts as the ends etc arent correct.

So I bought a rebuilt one from these guys who have used all new genuine connectors.

http://www.mercedes-benz-klassiker.de/

I have then used some proper heat proof jackets to keep the heat off the wiring, especially under the manifold area.

In the UK, if you have the time to send yours off, these guys will rebuild it.

http://www.sileck.co.uk/

In reality the main POS cable is normally ok. This only leaves the other four wires.. Not that difficult to replace if you take your time as the correct connectors are available from MB.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

For info:

Member "Kubasz" is repairing here these harnesses. He became so professional that he is working for the above mentioned German companies. He is in Poland.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Thanks for the links! I need my 320CE lower harness re-wired. It’s quite a complex one as the ETA is part of the loom. So I’ll get prices from the companies above. I did DIY my E36 harnesses and ETA re-wire but it took many, many hours and I vowed never to do it again!

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

I have the old harness out. There is no insulation to be found on the thin wires. New connectors are ordered. Rewiring isn't an issue but getting the wires sleeved and looking original is the real challenge.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

At least you are working on the easiest of the two. Shouldn't have any trouble getting appropriate 1/2" 500F shrink wrap in length and also several sizes smaller. Amazon is your friend, IIRC I have some that is in 5' sections I cut to length.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

I did the lower harness a few weeks ago and heard at the dealer that connector A014 545 0728 (oil level sender) was NLA in Netherlands/Germany. Can that be confirmed?

Lower Harness A1245402730

Yes that is what i used to cover multiples on another car’s harness. I used actually a long piece off my 87 c126 harness in my parts stock.

Doesn't look good:
http://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A0145450728?tt=manual

This BW thread also states it was NLA a few months ago:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w124-e-ce-d-td-class/2895073-w124-lower-harness-dyi-rebuild.html

Odd that a pin bushing housing used on a bunch of different engines / chassis would be NLA. Hopefully it's not permanent...

:(

De oil level connector consists of 2 parts. The rubber boot has PN A008 997 0781, witch is still available.

And for info: the oil pressure connector has PN A011 545 8528. Also available.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

They are the same as a w126 lower, and a temp sensor for the upper

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Quick update: Confirming A014 545 0728 is NLA here. I'm hoping the one on my parts car is good enough to use. I have ordered a bunch of GXL wire so the rebuild is still on standby.

it is DEFINETLY good to use..as it is only the thin wires that needs replacing...the thick main power wire never breaks..
just make sure to take your time...tape up the new wires to the old one to get the correct length...replace one by one..and it will be super. All connectors can be re used..unless they are rusted out.even the plastic housings..as all are "servicable/rebuildable".

"How-to" with good photos of removal/install would be great as I am looking to change mine in the near future too.

its not hard to do...it is pretty much self explanatory...its just straigh forward unbolt,,disconnect,,,drag the wiring harness out...and vica versa.you will have to remove the heat shield on the starter motor, and unscrew the cable run through plastic in the firewall....other than that..it is easy.but abit tight space...but have faith in yourself..and just go ahead and do it..and you wont need a how to :)

The 124.034 has completely different routing (and connectors) at the chassis, compared to the 124.036 lower harness. They are the same at the starter / alternator / etc though.

nocfn had some good tips on the .036 R&R including a trick on how to get it snaked between the trans dipstick and cylinder head, without being a nightmare.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

I checked my records and I ordered mine on 2/1/17 from MB Naperville

if anyone wants pics on the harness connections let me know and I can add them

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Thx. I saw that post but something with more or better pics would be great I think. Kinda like step by step (or maybe I am spoiled by other "how-to" posts). For example it says "I detached the connections to the lower wire harness in the engine bay, behind the firewall on the passenger's side." but I am not sure where exactly, there are bunch of wires there.

I am absolutely sure I could figure it out if I would start taking it all out but it would be nice to have a clearer picture before I start. Thats all. He offered to do it so I gave my .02 cents :). Crappy wiring is such a serious thing on these cars so I figured a nice "How-to" would be good to have and can definitely be useful.

Thx gsxr, didnt know routing was much different between .034 and .036.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Sorry I haven't posted pics... I am having bad car Karma. I rebuilt my lower harness, all OK. Car started running rough, needed tune-up... plugs, wires, caps & rotors, done, all OK. Then we had a heavy rain and my car flooded like crazy. Water 3" deep on the drivers floor. Windshield was coming loose, aftermarket windshield improperly installed, rust and poor adhesion to the glass. Windshield R&R'd by local glass shop, all OK. Then my air pump locked up with a lot of clacking, whining and squealing. Air pump unplugged, all OK (sort of, CEL on). Finally, sitting at a light I got rear ended by a Kia Sorento. Can't close the trunk. $2,800.00 damage. Repairs yet to be done. :pissed:

Yikes! Sorry to hear that... were you Kia'd in the E420 or the 500E? (and, did the Kia occupants survive?)

:runexe:

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Kamikaze Kia hit the 500E. Fortunately it wasn't very fast. Her Kia had minor scrapes in the paint. Her bumper hit just above mine. Tail panel got pushed in quite a bit. Good news is she has insurance... A rare occurrence in my area.

I think these Jono harnesses are the new "gray trunk switch" ...... guaranteed to impress the ladies !!

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Update: Bad Car Karma continues... Rear repair work done by local MB dealer body shop. Bill came to $4,700. Still not done correctly, appt to see the manager tomorrow. Did I mention I had to change the accumulators too?

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

A quick update on the availability of the lower wiring harness. I ordered the lower wiring harness through MBoemparts.com last week. They confirmed that it is available from Germany. There are not any at MB dealerships in the U.S. MBoemparts.com said there are now 13 available in Germany. I am not sure if this is the last of the harnesses or if this is what is currently available.

Re: Lower Harness A1245402730

Wiring harnesses are generally built on demand, in small batches. It shows "available" again at MB Classic Germany, which is great news.

https://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A1245402730?tt=automatic

https://www.mboemparts.com/oem-parts/mercedes-benz-pos-cable-1245402730

Hoard 'em while you can!

This is only for the 124.036 cable, btw. No luck on the 124.034 which still shows "not available, will not be remanufactured".

:spend:

"POS Cable" is an apt description

I just sold my car with a new/old stock lower wiring harness in a separate box (pic can be seen in my ad post). You may call the new owner - Sam ( 818 900 00 10 ), he might be interested in selling it.

While I understand the desire to do `things like the factory and keep things original as much as possible...

Given:
—Only the sensor wires are subject to deterioration, not the power cable;
—New lower harness somewhat of a PITA to install;
—Effort being spent to ensure better heat protection (before reinstalling following the original pathway!);
—Availability problematic for 400E420;
—Cost (likely) out-of-line with actual value of the harness IMO;
—Electrons will follow copper wire whatever (new) path the wire takes...

Why would’t someone not overly concerned with slavish originality:
—Cut the 4 thin sensor wires flush with the original harness, leaving it in place with it’s starter/alt connections intact,
—Using new or recycled connectors, make new individual wires stout enough and long enough to invisibly re-route them however you like around the periphery of the engine bay, and reconnect. Pair and sheath as desired.
—wrap the retained +cable as much as cosmetically desired.

That’s what I’d do, and my engine and anyone else would never know...

Wow! That’s a first. Is it for real?

How the hell did Walmart get involved w/ Mercedes Parts? $270.00 is a lot better price than the Classic Center’s $470.00

Search the part number via Google, better prices out there than Walmart, I just thought the Walmart listing was worth a laugh

Walmart is like Amazon, they don't actually sell the part themselves, they have a "marketplace" with other vendors that list and sell it. They just provide the Internet storefront. WalMart does NOT deal in MB parts in any way, shape or form.
