Beru rotors now made in ITALY, no longer reboxed OE

Gerry, I got them online and one caveat is that changing around store pick up locations fluctuated the price by $20 or so.. I was not aware of 20% discount
Yeah, I don't really understand the NAPA business model (are they independent franchises or something?) but the individual locations are all able to set their own prices independently online. Furthermore, I have realized that if you buy in person (or on the phone with the local NAPA guy) they have the flexibility to reduce prices further for you if you can be charming enough......

Are these the correct eBay mentioned Beru caps to go along with the Napa Beru rotors? Off to Napa now to see if the Evil 183 rotors are still available.

Those are definitely the correct caps. Hopefully you can get the EVIL 183s as well. Let us know what you find on that.

Two EVIL 183 were still available at my local Napa. Well, not on the shelf with one coming from Albany, NY and the other from the Midwest, but Napa did tell me there were 12 in stock in Anchorage, Alaska, a few in Tampa, Florida and others spread out across the country. Total cost was $45.99 per rotor with $11.99 to have the one from the Midwest shipped. Total with shipping and tax was $110.43. Now to order the caps. And dust shields???

Fyi - buy online and save. Total with shipping was just under $100 when I just placed an order for a spare set. I paid $55/each a couple months ago, and $44 each tonight with automatic 20% off when I added two to my cart.

I emailed FCP a couple weeks ago, and asked them to update their site with new photos and COO of the new Beru EVL-1831 rotors.

They have done so... new photos, COO = Italy, price has been reduced as well to $49/ea:

I'd still shell out for OE.

This is unfortunate, the Beru 183 was really good.
I have a set of like new but contaminated OE rotors and Distributors that I pulled from the 500E.
The quality is not the best, I could not dry them out.

I was going to replace the rotors and caps and dust shield/insulator on my car, at some point soon, and from reading past posts here it seemed like the consensus was to use Beru Caps & Rotors and Bosch dust shield (since Beru doesn't make the dust shield).
Is that still the case?

Who makes the OE ones referenced above?

OE / Genuine Mercedes rotors are made by Doduco. The dealership is the only source for these unless you can locate some old-stock Beru, which were reboxed OE with the Beru logo engraved on them. Bottom line, the "good stuff" is still available, just at higher cost now.

[Old-version, Doduco-made] Beru is still available at NAPA. See below and also text in description mentioning Beru.

Napa still shows the BERU EVL-183s available.
These are $5 more costly than when I last posted this in March 2021. This now matches @msq's pricing in MA. However, Napa is also running a promo "$10 off your next $40 purchase".

NAPA's price on the Beru caps is in-sane at $135 EACH, and that's with 20% discount. Beru caps are available on eBay for ~$165/pair. OE/dealer caps are stupid priced at $250 MSRP. Currently, all the aftermarket caps (Bosch, Beru, Bremi) are in the $90-$100 range each from almost every vendor.

Old-version Beru rotors are currently $55 each at NAPA with 20% discount:

As mentioned back in post #83, the "good" OE/Genuine rotors are still available from MB, but at a higher price. Currently $120 MSRP, discount ~$83 each from the good Mr. Hicks. But yeah, if you need them, $49-$55/ea from NAPA will save a few Hamiltons (maybe Grants). Enjoy it while it lasts, when NAPA is sold out, we'll all be stuck paying for OE/dealer rotors, or gambling on the aftermarket junk.

I got a great deal! 102.59 each at Napa auto online shipped to my home. I also use a discount NAPATEXT Porn additional $10 off

This is for BERU cast by the way

Hi @gsxr my 500 is due for ignition parts refresh since it's been intermittently misfiring lately.

THe Beru rotor is still available at FCP for $21.77. Is this better than the Bosch $47.49? Assuming I get Bosch caps and dust caps, is it ok to mix it with the Beru rotor or is it better to get Bosch for everything to match?

Also, do I need a new rotor bracket? Autohaus issues a warning that it requires a newer style bracket. What is the difference visually?

Thanks.

The Beru rotors from 2020 were reboxed OE/Genuine complete with MB Star logo and part number. However, this changed in late 2020 and Beru started to rebox aftermarket Facet rotors instead. The part number received a fourth digit so you can tell the difference (and, the OE were black, while aftermarket are orange). Read the earlier posts in this thread for photos & details. If you can afford OE rotors from the dealer, I'd prefer those. On a budget, get Bosch. Don't use anything else. Not Facet, not Bremi.

Yes, you can mix & match brands (OE Doduco rotors with Bosch caps). The insulator is only available from Bosch. You should not need a new rotor bracket unless your car is extremely early build *and* it never had the rotors replaced before. Search the forum, there have been photos posted showing the old & new style bracket.

Since you are having misfire issues, I'd highly recommend cutting additional vent slots as shown in post #2 of this thread. If your caps/rotors are recent you could try cleaning & drying first (along with added slots). If they are older, probably better to start with new.

EDIT: Moved posts from this old thread to here.

Thanks for the extensive reco and tips @gsxr!

I'll go with the OE rotors and Bosch for the rest then. Autohaus is much cheaper than FCP for these. Any other sites I should consider that may be cheaper?

Looks like Napa might have these. Is $54 each a good price?

Yes, and there may be a NAPA coupon available to drop the price further. There may be limited stock, assuming they have the correct item.

For reference, the OE/Genuine (p/n 119-158-02-31) rotors are $127 MSRP each, ~$95/ea from discount dealers. MB Naperville (link below) has free shipping with code 500EPROMO but that's still nearly 2x the NAPA price:

:seesaw:

I was able to buy one Beru distributor cap from Partsgeek. Apparently it is the last one and I was not able to order another. Anyone know where I can get another?

@gsxr,
Which rotor do you prefer. Black Beru or Bosch. I am looking at a Bosch rotor from ArizonaAZ
Rotor #1191580232 $39.99 X 2 $79.98
Cap #1191580102 $93.99 X 2 $187.98
Dust Shld #1191580188 $60.99 X 2 $121.98
$389.94
Edit: I just checked and no Bosch rotor just a Bremi @$22.99 X 2

I last priced this stuff about a week ago and they had all the right part #s listed.

This Sucks

Terry,

The Black Beru are NLA. Only option now is OE/Genuine rotor (119-158-02-31) from the dealer, but they are spendy... $152 MSRP, ~$115 from discount dealers. Each!

My second choice is the Bosch aftermarket. They are usually fine and much more reasonably priced at $40-$50ea. Unfortunately, most vendors are OOS on the Bosch, which is concerning. Pelican claims to have one left.

Note that all this stuff should last 75-100kmi or beyond. These don't need replacement every 10-20kmi. How old are yours, Terry? Any ignition problems currently?

:scratchchin:

@gsxr,
If you recall back in May I sent you a DM telling you my car started running on about half an engine upon leaving the C&C at the MB Classic Center in Long Beach and it was time for a tune up with about 50K miles on the last distributor caps and original rotors.

Well thru procrastination it has been setting in my garage not being driven or repaired. I have until September 2nd to get a CA Smog Cert and registration. So no more procrastination I have to get to work.

The caps appear to be available from Arizona AZ online for $93.99 ea they also supposedly have the dust shields for $60.99 ea but no Bosch rotors and I definitely want new ones. I also want to install the cam seals that have been setting around for years.

Any check back thru your May DMs if you keep them for what I discussed with you. Boy time flies it’s been about 2-1/2 months of procrastination. Time to actually do some work.

Because of limited garage space I have to work in the driveway and don’t want to leave the car outside waiting for parts so if possible I want to have the parts in hand before I start the project.

Edit: FCP Euro online shows Bosch Rotors @$52.99 ea
