Biodegradable Sheath in W124 Doors

This afternoon I decided to take off my front door panels and was shocked to see the sheath covering some wire broken to bits in the door.
These wires supply the vacuum lock.
Has anyone else had this happen? Does this means the wires are also degradable? I’m really concerned and will have to look at the other doors.

The wire insulation looks perfect. If it's only the outer sheath, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just make sure the wires will not rub against sharp edges.

May want to wrap them with some cloth tape, which you can get via amazon. There are threads about this stuff here on the forum.
