This has been around for a while, but a friend tipped me off to a couple of weeks back.

Once Set up and paired- you do have to play around with adjusting the volume on both the Car Stereo and the Smartphone – otherwise the sound is distorted, but once you have sorted that – it does what it says on the box, works well streaming mp3’s/Pandora/Spotify and with the Pop out Mic and sound through the car speakers - it also does a good job for Hands Free calling.

Only drawback is you have to pull it out to recharge, but it does automatically power-up/down via inserting the adapter in the Stereo.

Ion Charges $29.99, I got mine via B&H Photo for $22 including shipping.

Thanks! It certainly looks like it would work better than two tin cans and a piece of string...

Interesting. I use a monster cassette adaptor for my iPod and the sound is remarkable. I would like to have charging ability and hands free calling though.

It's always a good rule of thumb to turn the source audio all the way up then notch down a couple of clicks, then use the destination volume control to set the right level. Most "volume" controls operate as a pad to the feed, so at full on there is less pad applied. You'll get much better audio quality this way than turning up the volume at destination and down at source.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this product.

Funny timing. I ordered one from Amazon ($22) last week and installed it yesterday. Mine was defective as it would immediately eject in both my 500E and my Lexus. I am returning it and hope that the replacement works better.

I primarily bought it for my Lexus SUV that I use for long road trips. I had Becker install an Aux cable on my 500E radio. The Ion may be a better solution despite than the aux input.

Just so that folks know ... the cassette mechanisms on the Becker stereo units are notoriously finicky. Some radios will eject non-cassette cassettes that are inserted. I have had some radios that have been fine with adapters, and others that just won't accept a non-music cassette.

True Gerry, but when this didn't work on the Lexus - I am pretty sure I have a busted unit. That is the good thing about Amazon Prime: another one is on its way here and UPS will pick up the defective one from my porch.

I've noticed that when it's really cold (not that you would know what that is:) it ejects the Ion adapter or cassette.

very surprised about reviews here.
i find the sound terrible for listening to music. over compresses everything.
can't even compare sound quality to using the headphone jack wired tape adapter.

This space for rant...

On that subject, I never cease to be amazed at the number people that go nuts over Bluetooth audio, satellite radio, etc. etc. I can't even bear to listen to talk radio on a satellite, much less music, and Bluetooth of any kind is almost, if not fully worse.

I would say that all of these formats sound like 2 tin cans and a string, but even the cans and a string and are not going to sound so compressed, yet still somehow have an echo. And no, I am not an "audiophile" People that think they can hear the alloy percentages of a given solder are simply insane. But really, most of these compressed digital formats I find completely unlistenable. I'd rather just leave the damn thing turned off...
