C/L hoopties

I'm on a hooptie selling roll. I sold my 90 300SL 5 speed, 2 super duty pickups and an 86 Euro 500SEC (Gen 2) in the last month. I now have this for consideration. It's an 88 300TE, runs fine but has not been used in 8 years. I just put 4 new tires on it in the last week and plan to install ball joints in the next week, although I expect that the entire front end will need rebuilding. Blue text interior, white exterior. It's sadly missing the door panel on the back passenger side.

Being a Texas car, the dash is cracked but the body is a solid. $1750 to anyone who's interested in these. Otherwise I might fix and knock around in or dismantle.

Jaguar "prototype" aka "Baron" - not something one would see often...

"Barone XJW coupe, one of a kind, the only one in the world, converted from a 4 door sedan into a coupe, replacing the engine with an Oldsmobile V8, read the full article on the history of the car in the February 1999 The Ontario Jaguar publication, Volume 10, Number 1. New battery, front rotors, calipers and brake pads, new air and oil filters, and fresh oil change. Headlights, brake lights, dash lights and turn signals all working. Radio/CD, electric windows, gas gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, voltage gauges all working, the speedometer and horn are not at the moment. Has Pirelli tire with good tread, but are old and cracking. The body has bubbling and amature body work in some areas with unmatched paint. There is a small leak when the car sits, I believe from the steering but could be from the transmission pan. The car starts, runs, drives and stops, I tool around town in it, but may need rear brake pads, I hear a noise when I am stopping. The under carriage has rust, it looks like it was recently undercoated over some rusted areas. There are rust holes in the front of the floor boards. in the front wheel wheels, along with some amature repairs, I included some pictures of some of those areas, but please have the car inspected or see the car to determine the extend of the rust. The carpeting is in good shape and the seats are in excellent condition, the dash pad has 2 cracks. The trunk area is very nice. Due to the speedometer not working, I am unsure of the actual mileage, 50K is showing. The sale includes the Jaguar show plates, owners manual wiring diagram and color brochure, the car has a clean Maryland title. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information or pictures."

So this "Jaguar Baron" is what you come up with when your '76 Chrysler Cordoba is just too graceful and has proportions that are just TOO MUCH AWESOME for your tastes? .... And you need a litte more ugly in your life? 🤣

Hooptie on BAT?

someone is going to buy this and check for AMG engine mods OR monochrome the trim from gold to black and resell. OR Both....that's my guess. BaT burns so hot right now it is going to fetch stupid money--as far as market is concerned...love those recaro's front AND back! That's crazy.

And now, for your viewing pleasure, the roughest 56kmi ever seen in the wild. "Some little rust spot on fender. Rest of the car no rust." ??!! :hide1:

Unbelievable bad condition for the miles (if true mileage), especially the rust & the seat wear.
Also under the hood the engine compartment is horrible. I had a 180000 mile E320T that looked much better than this mess

1991 560SEC for sale (no affiliation) $3,995

Part of me really wants to go, look at it and possibly save it, as I always had a soft spot for C126 cars, and this one has been popping on CL for quite some time now... Just looks like the "deferred maintenance" or should we say a lack of any proper maintenance is beyond my scope of $$$$$ investment.

I just don't get how can one get a beautiful car as this one to such a state of being...

Regards,
D

32k for a beat up sport beetle?!! Seriously. These cars can’t be THAT sublime, can they???
Indeed basic narrow c2s are in absurd territory now. This past week, this basic c2 with likely corrosion near the windshield / tops of doors / and a whole bunch of stuff that isn’t pristine with 77k miles went for $112K plus fees. 😬

@Jlaa the fact that you are into sport beetles imbues them with amazing street cred for sure... but that is just beyond ludicrous.

but for reference... I can't even think about the purchase price of a brand new corolla without wincing... let alone a used car that looks like a dumpster fire for approximately the same price.

note: I would never EVER purchase a corolla for ANY price.

Not even something as cool as a 1982 4th generation Corolla SR5 (rear wheel drive)?
I'll totally buy one once the kiddo goes off to college! .... and install some way awesome 90s Alpine headunit with the green chiclet buttons!
Look how simple that car appears to work on! Changing a distributor cap/rotor/wires will take 5 minutes!

Yeah! I dunno. Toyotas have never done it for me. Something about their interior material and color choices just is bleh.

TRANSLATION: I don’t do Playskool cars. Not challenging enough for an aerospace guy like me. I crave ridinkulously complex over engineered nightmares as only then is something worthy enough to make me think about picking up a tool. A Toyota is just child’s play - I could rebuild one with the five toes on my left foot.…..while in a cast.
