I’ve got some Chrome wheels that need refinishing as some of the chrome is flaking. Any idea where I could find someone in the Bay Area to do the work? No one here seems to want to touch chrome.
pre covid I was referred to Stockton Wheel Service ( www.stocktonwheel.com ) and of course I did not "get around to it". I have never used them and dont' have any first had references, but you could check them out!
That chrome will have to be removed, which has become very expensive due to EPA regulations as mentioned, and then reapplied. Also expensive, likely more so in California.
The best solution for chrome wheels is to have the chrome media blasted and the wheel painted. Unfortunately, ROI is nearly gone. I have a set of Monoblocks sitting in the same state for the same reason.
@dionphaneuf, Chrome is a PITA! Get them stripped and have them painted. I had a guy that stripped chrome wheels in SoCal and it was cheap at the time but it's been many years. They did chrome / rechrome of wheels. I don't know if they are still there.
Thanks all - finding out much of the same. @tomer that place in Stockton can do them for $275 a wheel.
Any idea how that would compare to the stripping and painting and polishing @sheward or @TerryA ? I'd love to keep the look as close to chrome as possible, I think it's really sharp and suits the car.
I have no current knowledge of chroming/re-chroming pricing. About 12 months ago my wheel refinisher quoted me $400 per wheel to strip/blast chrome, check all aspects of roundness, correct, and repaint. I would say $275 per wheel to re-chrome is as good a price as you will find. Painting and polishing would likely be as much or more.
Agreed - seems like $275 in Stockton is my best bet. I also reached out to Cal Chrome in Valencia but it might be closer to $400 a wheel and is further away. Getting another local quote and might also check out some options in Reno/Sparks as I head there for work from time to time.
FWIW, $270 is the price of Maxlite 16x8" Penta wheels, but Lorinser RS80s seem to go for $400-600 each in good shape so they are right on the threshold of saving.
Mr Chrome in LA did a set for me AMG Multi Piece rims NO streaks...Triple plate...NOT cheap
As NO one in Florida will strip and replate Rims...Then The Shipping....
