I had similar problem when I bought febi CV boots. There were double amount of needed parts and wondered why. Didn't pay attention and send some nuts to yellow plating and when I was assembling rear subframe and mounting CV axles realized that plated nuts were too big. I was confused that how those nuts will not fit if the boots were right and it was proper kit. Then checked the rest of the nuts and they fit..
So I ended up plate wrong ones
I noticed in the FSM that that you are suppose to index axle to flange, but I didn't see any centering tab. It states after 4-91 and my car was built in 10-92.
I struggled with same issue and did not find any centering tabs. I don't know what will happen if my CV axles are not centered. Will see when car is ready.
Next time I will mark the sides and position properly before disassemble.
I am swapping mine side to side to even out any wear per comments on this site so I doubt there will be in vibration issues. I couldn't feel any play in centered postion up and down.
