Driveshafts

Trying to source some new driveshafts for a few refurbished subframes and it seems no one makes/lists any aftermarket driveshafts or parts. Mercedes won't sell the CV joints/boots, and having been quoted £1200 for a front 124 4matic driveshaft (and £500 for just the cv boots) I've rang everyone else first without any luck. Although I can now offer a full race driveshaft with 2 piece billet cv joints at not much more than the cost of 2 new Mercedes shafts. Still quite expensive for most builds.

So armed with the very useful diff PDF (Few driveshaft numbers need changing from 450 to 350 btw) I just got some prices from Mercedes, not really surprising at £769 plus VAT for the E500/R129 number. I asked for prices on the rest of the R129 options.

500sl no asr 129 350 27 10 - £769
500sl asr 124 350 87 10 - £727

600sl asr 129 350 43 10 - £310

600sl asr 129 350 61 10 - £775

600sl asr 129 350 65 10 - £775

So what are the actual differences between shafts and CV joints? As far as I can see the outter CV joint all have the same male spline size, even down to the 200 W124s, is that correct? Is the female spline also the same between models?

The inner CV is larger on R129/500E, not sure if this is the same for the W124 M104 cars.

ASD driveshafts are shorter. ASR are fatter, but are they any different in length to a non ASR driveshaft?

The 43 number is a more reasonable price for most builds, and is used on some of the SL500s also.

Would be good to know what the differences are, may be of use to some e500/500e cars.

Cheers

Can confirm the outter cv male spline is the same between an early 94/95 C36, W124 300e 12v, W210 E50 AMG, and a CLK320, the last 2 have the abs ring on the outter cv joint. Lengths aren't the same, going to hazard a guess this is going to be down to case size. So that SL number may not fit being from a 1.4l case vs 1.3l.

Will try and confirm inner cv female spline sizes soon.
