Engine number query

Hello all - I have a query regarding the (lack of) engine number on a 124 500E I checked out.

The engine number was not stamped in the usual place. The engine otherwise looked original. Car is early 1992.

Any ideas on this and whether it might have been an MB original engine?

Many thanks.

Hello. My 500E M119 isn't on the front in the standard location, nor is it on the rear on the surface shown in the photo. Are there any other places where the number might be? Does this mean the engine block was replaced with a new one without a number?

Those are the only 2 factory locations for engine serials. It would be very unusual to have an engine with nothing in either location. Got a photo of both of these areas on the block? Also get a photo of the block casting number on the driver side lower/rear. Might be a date code there also.
