The ETA plug ends changed on both 400E (034) and 500E (036) during or at the end of 1993. If both cars are 1994 models (E420 / E500) and the E420 has ASR, the ETAs will be compatible. All 036s came with ASR. The later E420 plug end should look like a round cylinder vs. a pancake shape to be compatible with your E500.
Yup, what Drew said. E420 and E500 ETA's are identical as long as the E420 has optional ASR. If the E420 does not have ASR, then no, they will NOT interchange. The labels are different colors also. White = ASR, Green = non-ASR.
The connector change occurred with the facelift. The engine serial break in the EPC is incorrect. All facelift (MOPF2) cars have the late "cylinder" connector.
