Hi all,,

These codes come back all the time , what is the most Probably :

ETA ?
or
Upper Wiring Harness ?

or
both ??

Codes :

096
Starter lock - out and reversing lamp switch S16/3
( It was changed )

048
Set value potentiometer , potentiometer monitoring M16/1r1

018
Magnets for crankshaft position sensor L5 not recognized

008
camshaft position sensor signal L5/1 not recognized

027
fuel injection valves Y62

N4/1 control unit

And this problem ( Engine difficult to start )

THANKS .

Well if you are still on the original harness its likely a cause of your codes and running issues. ETA too.

Most concerning is the starter lock out code. That sounds like it may be the LOWER harness.
The rest sounds eerily similar to what was going on with my 95 E420. On mine it was a 2 part issue the upper harness and caps rotors as well as wet back insulators.
On my upper harness every single injector plug was dead shorted as the insulation at the ends was completely gone yet the car still ran some how?

Start with the upper harness then carefully check the caps rotors and insulators first. I would also take a hard look at the condition of your lower harness due to that starter code as that is a real red flag!
Good luck.

096 - was the new switch adjusted properly? Was the correct switch installed (it is .034/.036 specific)? The lower engine harness does not connect to this switch.

048 - could be ETA issue, but not upper harness

018 - If this returns EVERY time you start the car, one of the flywheel magnets may be missing. No connection to upper harness.

008 - This could be due to the upper harness... or a flaky cam sensor.

027 - This could be due to the upper harness

If your harness is original, change it IMMEDIATELY!!

:shocking:

I think the lower does not connect to S16/3 .
Thanks for response .

Yes, properly and the reversing lamp work well now ( before not work ) .
Yes, correct ( 000 545 62 06 ) .

Yes , EVERY time even without driving the car .
flywheel magnets !!!!! > could you make it clear to me please .

date : 98 !!

:shocking:

Thanks alot ..

Its still likely ecojunk. My 93 had a dealer replacement in 2000 with another ecojunk harness from 1998. I would check the wires around some of the plugs and see how it looks.
I've not seen one dated after 1996 with bad insulation... got photos?

How to check ? Is it mean no need to replace the sensor itself ?
If the sensor has not been replaced, it could be the sensor. However, you can check the magnets visually... have to turn the crank slowly by hand and look through the grille on the transmission bellhousing to see if the magnets are both present. If both magnets are there, it could be the sensor is faulty, but a bad sensor usually means the car won't start or run.

Also see this TSB if you have an intermittent code 18 on the EZL:
http://124performance.com/docs/mb/M119/M119_crank_sensor_TSB.pdf

:detective:

I always get the code for CPS in the EZL when the car is not running. Its at every 500E/E420 car the same. My CPS is new, but it was the same with the old one.

I think the lower does not connect to S16/3 .
Thanks for response .

Got it, I was thinking the starter was continuing to engage after the switch was released which from what i have seen on several boards is a classic symptom of a dieing lower harness.
