Re: Modernized Brabus W140 7.3

Oh dear. This has me feeling my middle-age.

I really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this Brabus. It looks really well done.

However so many of the material / aesthetic choice scream “garish” and “déclassé” to me. The w140 always seemed to me to be a triumph of understatement and engineering prowess. Here, the leather floormats, automatic weaponry, gold lettering, COMMAND screen, etc etc seem to be the antithesis of understatement.

To bring up a stereotype- perhaps I have not been exposed to enough Eastern-European Gangster Types.....

Re: Modernized Brabus W140 7.3

I'm more partial to these W140's, made to look like a Gen 1 W220

What's with the front bumper lights? Those just look wrong to me... I can't picture Brabus using those on a 140. Sure like that engine though.

:drool5:

Originally I was thought the car was stunning (from the outside). Then I was going to put “Modified Brabus”. Then I saw the interior, and thought “modernized” was a better, for ...er um... better... or for worse.

maw

PS. Thanks Admins, for doing what you do. Cheers

The command center mouse is nicely done but I don't think it goes well with the old switches in the console. IMHO they should have updated all the switches to match the modern command center controls as well as the stereo. It sort of looks half-baked.

Interior is well overdone for my taste, and no tv screen on the dash can work for me. But the stance, the stance, the stance... Gorgeous!

I really like it – it looks fantastic! I do like how they uprated the interior too - still keeping the identity of the era. I was never a big fan of the w140 styling but this car is amazing. Assuming I’d the money in the first place, I’d much rather have this than a new S Class. The workmanship even just in the floor mats is superb. And those Carbon brakes :cloud9:

I would prefer to see it with a different set of wheels. To much dark on wheels. It needs some bling for me.

Maybe those 19” Monoblocks Captruff has on his 500E vs M5 featured article. I think thier Brabus also?

I do like the interior but I’m w/ Maui on this one and would take the E63S IF I had money to BURN.

He he... For 200 Grand i would call one number in Moscow and order a monster W or even C140 with 700+ hp... Just like 107´s i´ve posted earlier :D

As always, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. :cheers1:

I kinda like the wheels and interior. It's just that front bumper + lights which looks all sorts of wrong to me. IMO, the car would look much better with a full AMG body kit (bumper + sideskirts). AFAICT, it has stock side skirts, unknown brand front bumper, and I'm not sure if the rear bumper is stock, modified, or tuner-brand. Pics attached of an early 140 S70 with AMG bodykit.

But yeah, for $200k, there's a lot of other cars I'd prefer. 2018 E63S would be high on the list (maybe two, at $100k each)... or a used Pagani.

:watchdrama:

When I was looking at bringing in my first JDM car, the broker sent me a link to a black w140 with the same front bumper and it had the usual Brabus wheels. My response to him was very similar to that of yours.
There's a lot nicer bodykits available for w140 - this just was't one of them.
Other than that, nice car. Doesn't help when you have a low mileage w140 sitting that you don't quite know what to do with though!

I'm silly, but the one above (pic 20 of 20) has a different front bumper than the one GSXR posted in Post #17. Specifically it has square fogs instead of that half moon BS in post #17. I actually think the front bumper with the square fogs looks natural (more period correct) while the W221-ish half moons are hideous.

That's the beer I'm holding...

;-D

maw

LOL, Maw it must be - those are Amg fogs in GSXR's post. - very similar if not the same as the w124 amg gen2 (or gen 3 - depends on how you look at it)

Yup! The W124 Gen 2 (94-95) AMG bumper actually uses HWA-140 auxiliary high-beam lights from the 140 AMG bumper. Identical part numbers. I believe the half-moon shape was meant to complement the revised headlights/grille shape on all years 140 and the 94-95 facelift 124. The square setup was period correct for pre-facelift 124, and all 126, which is why - through my beer goggles - it looks out of place on any 140.

I'd still probably add this car to my collection if I had a nine-digit net worth and was already bored with all my Zondas.

:e500launch:

I don't know.... I still think the Amg version is more appealing to the Brabus one. The w140 Amg does look like a w124 with a little quick grow sprinkled on it. Maybe if Brabus proportioned the fogs in a similar fashion to the Gen 1 Amg kits, and completed the kit with skirts and rear bumper it would have a fighting chance.

I would take a w140 with this kit on it over any of the others.

Now THAT's interesting. Never knew that. I actually pulled out my "AMG 45" book to have a look, and I can't see how that is. The AMG 124 front bumper looks just like the non-AMG (E5E) ones to me, for all model years. The AMG S73 fog lights look like what GSXR posted above, not the square ones I like from Brabus above. Its hard for me to see how the fog lights themselves could be interchangeable between the bumpers (and probably for the AMG R129 cars as well), but I won't argue with part numbers. The AMG 45 Book itself isn't detailed enough to see differences pre- and post- facelift on the W140 car, and we've beat to death the fact that AMG then weren't exactly fastidious with their records.

The R129 AMG (SL60) car fog lights look just like the W124 AMG (E60) fog lights, but they look different from the W140 AMG (S73) fog lights. I'll see if I can post pics. Of course, none of these look like the rectangle Brabus ones on this car, which most resemble the fogs from the AMG 190 3.2.

I know, this is all to the Nth detail...
