400E Going to get some Flex discs!

You're very lucky.

That being said, get OE flex discs, no aftermarket. (Are SGFs available?) As you can see, this is a very critical part and you don't want to risk failure using an aftermarket flex disc. Always best to bite the bullet and go OE on any rubber drive train or suspension parts.

I believe the part number is 129 410 01 15 for both front and back, but do verify that against your VIN. Might also want to consider replacing your center bearing and bearing carrier as well, since you'll have the driveshaft disconnected at both ends. A fairly easy job to do while you're there.

Holy crap that's the worst M119 disc I've seen!

Yeah I haven't driven it much over the last few years...got a F150. 400 was neglected.
My daughter was driving it to work and to see friends. It must have been going out then...I never noticed anything different until I got some things done and test drove it. I noticed the vibration and noticed the strut hats/ lower wire harness bad registration/smog due.

The last test drive I again noticed the vibration was worse. I thought to myself I'd better check those flex discs.👀😯

Got SFG's from RM European! Autohaus AZ was out!

Does the Flex disc say "GERMANY" on it? Or does the box say made in Germany?

Febi/Bilstein is just a company that reboxes products (many if not most of them made in China) into their own boxes.

COO = Country of Origin. Febi/Bilstein isn't a COO.....

I'm just trying to determine whether SGF is still making their products in Europe, or they have moved production to China.

Score! When installing, remember to place the washers against the flex disc, not against the prop flange or diff/trans flange...

:banana2:

BTW mine say made in Germany on the opposite side of the label SFG.
I wonder if it's an updated production style or if it's made in a different factory?

It depends on the specific part. I believe the one I pictured is for a W126 chassis, but I was trying to illustrate the markings to back up my COO request and what it would look like on a part. I'm sure some say "MADE IN GERMANY" and others say "GERMANY."

Got the front one out!

The new one installed.

I have never seen an M119 flex disc fail that badly. I wonder if it was OE/OEM, or aftermarket. Is there enough left to find a brand logo?

If you only lost a little insulation, you're doing great. Some cars have large chunks missing after many years of deterioration. Sadly the insulation is NLA.

Yeah I was barely able to make out an original Mercedes symbol. Although I did not take a picture of it. I assumed they were original to the car 28 year's ago.

It looks like the rear one was replaced at one time ( no signs of deterioration ). I'm going to keep an eye on it. It looks real good right now. I have the disk and a center bearing when I need it.

The next thing to do is front struts (dead and leaking), exhaust hangers, oil pressure sender ( next oil change ), passenger side transmission line - banjo style (ordered but out of stock... And now reordered) and the power steering pump return hoses.

The car is already way better then it's has been since I've owned it.

I think 400E's are grossly underappreciated. It's the only w124 sedan I would ever own again ( except 500E ). But I do like the wagons a lot. Already have a coupe!

If the flex disc is new, does it still rub/touch in the Upper part of the insulation? Will rubbing damage the insulation with time?

I know our @alabbasi is also an expert at failed flex discs, so he can probably add to this discussion.

Only input is to by OE quality discs. I had both flex discs on a 91 560SEL fail on me within 9 months. Much worse and totaled the car. With the additional power from the m119, I expect that these are sub standard parts.

Doesn't the 560 only use 6 bolt disks? Same as most older Benz?
