• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,

So I am measuring interest in coordinating a group buy of reproduction SLS reservoirs (201 320 00 14). These are currently NLA and while most believe they will not stay in this status given the number of cars still on the road with hydraulic suspension, there is currently no timeline.

So I reached out today to the company (Ersatzteile für Ihren Oldtimer) that makes the reproduction units that @speedy300dturbo pointed out in this thread (WANTED - 2 or 3 new SLS suspension tanks A 201 320 00 14 | Wanted to Buy) and got pricing for quantities of 25, 50, 75, and 100 units shipped to my home in VA. This is a link to the unit on their website (Ölbehälter für Mercedes W124 W126 W201 Niveauregulierung - oldtimer-e, 59,90 €). Note that the price in their eBay listing (Oil Reservoir Oil Container Oil Tank for Mercedes W124 W126 W201 Level Regulator | eBay) was $101+$71 in shipping.

I'm working with @captruff on this as he will secure reproduction blue labels which go on the top of the reservoir.

Here is the volume pricing in EUR (with notional shipping from Germany to VA). Note that the Label Price will be provided in USD

Here is the plan:
  1. The ordering window will close on Friday, 17 July (4 weeks from today). All you have to do is reply to this thread indicating how many units (reservoir & label) and how many extra labels you want.
  2. The quantity requested will determine the reservoir purchase price level
  3. The reservoirs will be sent out via U.S. Priority Mail to addresses in the United States (if you live outside the U.S., we’ll have to figure out the right shipping method). Update: I am researching if I can use a USPS Priority Mail poly bag to ship with the reservoir label inside or a USPS Priority Mail flat rate box will be needed.
  4. I will update this thread with the amount of money required to be sent by each participant for reservoirs and labels including postage
  5. Payment via PayPal will need to be made via Friends & Family option by 20 July in order to confirm your slot
  6. Once the shipment has been received, I will ship in order of payment received (I’ll try to get them out all at once but have to plan in case I cannot)
If you would like to be a part of this group buy, here is what you need to do:
  1. Reply to this thread and indicate the number of units you want. Each unit is comprised of a reservoir and a label. Also indicate how many extra labels you would like. For example, if you order 2 units and 2 labels you will receive 2 reservoirs and 4 labels.
  2. Feel free to change your order between now and 17 July.
Lastly, if there is higher demand than 100 reservoirs, I will update the table to reflect the new pricing level.

If you have any questions/concerns/requests, please let me know.

@Ntrepid,

I've found with the group buys that I've done, that it's a good idea to add a few extra units (or perhaps 10% additional) to the order to have extras to sell to people who miss the group buy, who aren't members yet, or who don't yet but someday will need a unit. It's a bit of a PITA to front the money to keep parts in your stock, but also is a good thing to pay it forward a bit, and perhaps recoup a few bucks extra when the opportunity does come up to sell the extra units. I've always sold out of any extras that I've set aside, pretty quickly.

So, if you're up to 45 people who want units, just tack another 5 units on at your own expense, both to get to the next level of discount, and to have a few extras.

Just a thought.

I keep looking at this post which means I'm interested even though I know nothing about this tank/reservoir, what it does and how often it needs replacement. Please educate me. Do other 124's and 129's use this part as well? Where is it located in my car?

Other W124s use it like the cabriolets while R129s do not. In the W124 it is on the front passenger side behind the headlight and next to the windshield fluid reservoir (see the attached picture). It is a reservoir which holds the hydraulic fluid that is used to keep the car level in the rear. It does not *need* replacement but it does yellow over time like the coolant overflow reservoir behind the windshield fluid reservoir in the picture.

I know what @Sam SL means. I'm thinking about ordering one and a set of stickers and I don't even have a 500E!

Not to question your comments, Robert, but would an R129 with the V12 have one of these, since they had hydraulic suspension as well?

Just wondering...:scratchchin:

Dan

Is this GB open to W201 owners?

:wormhole:

Of course! In fact, this is plug 'n' play with your 16V. For everyone who may one day have a car to put around it, you can put your order in now! 🙃

Dan -

I believe the R129 SL600 variant had ADS using hydraulics but not one of these reservoirs.

Below are all of the W124 and W126 variants that use this reservoir.

US-Spec cars are indicated in Green.

Thank you for organizing this @Ntrepid, very nice of you. I am contemplating if I should buy one or not. I replaced mine (560SEC) two years ago with a new one from the dealer and kept the old one too (which is in very good condition).

One comment that I would like to make about the W126 models in the chart in post #27 is that the US model 420SEL did not have this reservoir because this car was not offered with SLS in the US. I am not very familiar with the 300SE model, but to my best knowledge the US version of 300SE also did not have SLS. The only US models in the 126 family that were equipped with SLS for US were 560SEL and 560SEC (1986-1991).

Thanks. I believe the list above does not distinguish the market they were made available in originally.

This is correct. The U.S. spec W126 diesels did not have SLS, nor did the 420SELs or 300SELs. I've owned all of them and none of them had SLS.

Both of mine Roy are new, but a new spare is a great thing to have. ( I kept my yellow ones- they operate fine just like me, but showing my age)

:update:

I can now confirm that this Group Buy has moved from speculative to reality which is AWESOME! In less than 48 hours, we have reached our first discount level for 25 units. In fact, this means that since this campaign has launched we have averaged a reservoir request every other hour!

You'll note that I have updated the Cost column to reflect the current purchase price of the reservoir based on the 25 unit order.

Onwards to 50!

Robert

Looks like you'll hit the 50 threshhold with little difficulty. Good price break up to 50 units, but less so after 50.

@Ntrepid, if it comes down to a few extra units less than you're comfortable buying on spec and selling yourself later on, I'll make up the difference up to an additional 3-4 units from what I've already committed to.

I'm in for one tank and one label. I take it the new tank will not have the 3 pointed star etched on the side of it.

The new MB / OE tanks come with screw-on plastic lids, and the filter inside as well as the blue circular decal. This appears that it will just be the bare tank. Likely no MB start on it.

Gerry,

Do the 500E tanks have the little cylindrical pleated paper filter, or just a screen? I wondered, as in newer models with SLS they used a screen that you just rinsed out. Not a big deal, as I don't know anyone besides myself that ever changed the filter as a maintenance item...

Dan

It's a screen inside the tank. Rarely replaced item.

Gotcha. W123 and earlier actually had a little cylindrical pleated paper filter. Kind of cool, although I don't think many people knew about them. Much the same about changing hydraulic fluid as a maintenance item, either....

Dan

If I remember, there is a HOW-TO on this important but mostly overlooked filter replacement.

Would this site not be complete without such a HOW-TO, even if not @gsxr-approved? :approved:
